MadMike’s First Post: The Sunday Roundup!

Arianna Huffington writes:

Crises bring out both the best and the worst in human behavior. For evidence of the latter, look no further than Pat Robertson blaming the Haiti earthquake on a long ago pact the island apparently made with Beelzebub, or Rush Limbaugh claiming Obama’s relief efforts were designed to curry favor with “the light skinned and dark skinned black community.” At the same time, the catastrophe has triggered what Jeremy Rifkin calls “a global empathic response” and an outpouring of compassion and charitable giving (texting alone has already produced $11 million in aid). HuffPost Impact is doing its part via its online store where you can buy and send desperately needed supplies to Haiti, including medicine, first aid kits, and water purification tablets. They’ve also set up a guide to the most effective groups accepting donations for relief efforts.

Your site is visually is stunning. I enjoyed your post on the Lakota and the Little Big Horn. The treatment of NA was not a stellar moment in American history. Good luck as you put your site together. I’ll continue to check in.

Great looking site, Mike! I mean really, awesome! I like the fact it loads easily too, though I suspect that will change with more content and traffic. Oh well. Take the bad with the good, the sour with the sweet.

As Oso said, any way I can help out … let me know.

Beach: I’ll have to disagree with you on the desire for balance. I think the right is a drag on progress generally, like it has been on health-care reform and labour rights in particular. But then my politics are to the left of liberal. 🙂

Congratulations on the look, Mike! It’s beautiful!

Someone once said that demographics is destiny and for the republicans, and I mean no offense by this because believe it or not I respect several and actually agree with them on a few minor items, but its quite possibly a death knell for them.

A report came out a few weeks ago but got little press that whitey will be a minority by 2050, a few years later than an earlier report said due to the recession slowing immigration. The United States will be a nation of minorities and with the African-American and Hispanic-American alienated to the absolute extreme by the republican party several far smarter people than I have admitted the GOP could end up a minor regional party centered in the South with little influence in national affairs.

The irritating rub in all my smelly verbal emissions is that I actually believe in balance and that it is very unhealthy for a nation to be dominated by any one party. My fellow Liberals can go just as crazy and fly off to Never-never land as the GOP now has ran by a silly token who was put in the leadership less for inclusion than to convince the other GOP members that they ain’t as bad others think. Sorry, when you have to kiss Limbaugh’s ass days after taking the job you ain’t no one.

The point in this overly long comment is that Limbaugh, Beck, and several others are a rear guard action that over time will either have to be rejected or the republican party will end up like I mentioned above.

To a certain extent given how extreme some people are against Obama I think deep down they actually know it themselves. Now don’t think I’m an “Obamabot” I like the guy and support much of what he believes in but by no means is he a messiah, he is just a man and on something I think he is wrong.

Good night and good luck, I’m playing hooky from work tonight and I have six more Landshark longnecks to drink.

Mike,
Wish you the best in your new life as a professional blogger. You’ll do well I’m sure and I doubt we’ll agree on much, but I’ll read your site with enthusiasm. Good luck.

Sweet, I can link to my own website! This is exciting, getting to see a new site under construction! I’m sure you know this already, but the rss is going straight to code page. My only downer is the white on black is hard to read – but I’ll put my glasses on 🙂

Seriously, I really hope this takes off like you want – I can see a lot of hard work has already gone into this site. What I really really like and think is pretty slick is how your boxes on the right have the wolf picture faded behind them – very cool. I’ll shut up now 🙂 OH! I just saw the faded rss feed for the post and trackback…neat! What does this theme remind me of…something trekkie, I’m sure…

I also offer my services in any way you think I might be of use.

Well, I think the page is beautiful. This symbolism of the wolf is well done. Yeah, wolves, they’re lifers, once they choose, that’s it…it’s done. 🙂 Teachers, too. They teacher their young and those who don’t seem to intuit as well as another. I enjoyed the Coakley peice too. I like your site Mike. Very free Spirit kind of feel. 🙂

Looks great Mike.Got your back on this in any way I can help.

Just keep in mind I’m a product of the Los Angeles Unified School District and as such need spell check and close supervision to ensure I don’t leave early.
