OBAMA SETS EMISSIONS TARGET FOR GREENHOUSE GASES!!
The republicans will no doubt hate it, as they do everything which is beneficial to the individual, but the Boss, and I don’t mean Bruce Springsteen, has spoken. Read the Huff Post story:
President Obama announced Friday morning a pledge to reduce the federal government’s greenhouse gas emissions by 28% by 2020.
[This] will ensure that the Federal Government leads by example in building the clean energy economy. Actions taken under this Executive Order will spur clean energy investments that create new private-sector jobs, drive long-term savings, build local market capacity, and foster innovation and entrepreneurship in clean energy industries.
President Obama went on to say:
“As the largest energy consumer in the United States, we have a responsibility to American citizens to reduce our energy use and become more efficient,” said President Obama. “Our goal is to lower costs, reduce pollution, and shift Federal energy expenses away from oil and towards local, clean energy.”
Whitehouse.gov went on the emphasize the savings from the plan, estimating that the measure would save between $8-11 billion.
The Washington Post reports:
The announcement came hours after the Obama administration delivered a non-binding pledge to other countries that the United States would cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
The Obama administration submitted its reduction target to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat under the Copenhagen Accord, a non-binding deal brokered by the United States last month at the U.N.-sponsored climate talks. Under the deal President Obama helped secure in Copenhagen, major emitters of greenhouse gases are expected to “inscribe” their reduction targets by January 31st….

Agreed Mrs. Bee!
Mike, yeah, that’s pretty much what I think too. We’re all fubar in the long run, and i doubt that emissions decreases by 2020 will have much effect.
I think Mrs. Bee that we have long passed the starting gate…Shit is about to happen, and is happening in the U.S. and the world. Terrible winters and long hot summers are the norm. I warrant that we will see spring in late February if not early March. It has begun and there is no stopping it…
It’s a start, and at least it’s not some report by 2000 podiatrists “contesting” global warming.
Will I will check out your link. I am a serious animal lover as I am sure you know and have often though of going meatless permanently. I did it for about a year once but fell under the weight of peer pressure and went back to eating meat. I think I am about ready to try it again. Thanks man!
Mike, I very much respect that the President is tackling these issues. But, might I also suggest that your readers check out “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer. It’s a great book and, yes, he posits that by going meatless for one day, it’s better for the environment than your keeping your car off the road for SEVERAL days. I mean. I know that I’m a broken record on this and all but, dude, I’m a true believer here.
