Yesterday, the man who got me into writing about politics and culture online “called it quits.”
Now, I’ve known Mycue23 from some 26 or 27 years. So it’s no small thing for me to say I don’t think he’s done. I know what I’m talking about.
He’s done for this week maybe.
I wrote recently about my own posting less, which I attribute to being as much about today’s uncertainties as I do to a genuine love of what I see written by others here and elsewhere. I don’t really read Op Eds anymore, what I frequently see from writers like Holte and Bee Kepper’s Apprentice, Oso, Truth 101, Vig and many, many others on here and elsewhere just beats the shit out of the newspapers’ sections these days.
Yet it seems like any one of us is ready to jump off the cliff at any time with regard to our writing, which I think is just crazy.
We write for a reason, my fellow human beings.
If you’ve felt, -as I have on occasion- that there’s not much to write about, that there’s no point in ranting, raving, dissecting the truth, differentiating fact from propaganda posing as opinion, then-
-and read the last four paragraphs and tell me honestly if you can ever say you’ll stop speaking the truth to power… That you’ll ever stop writing.
I don’t think I’ll ever give the liars who greedily assault reality the solace of even thinking “I’m done.” Fuck Dick Cheney, and fuck them.
They can lie behind closed doors to each other, but out here?
Out where the fuckin’ sun shines?
Out under God’s light of day?
I just don’t think so.
Come on. I dare any of you to read this horse shit and let them slide.
I’m taking the subway home and I hope the response thread to this nonsense in this so-called “article” by the Associated Press will leave the intellectual equivalent of blood on the ground.
I expect to see you all with dirtied hands. I am proud to be in your company.
And by the way, I will not stop writing.

I’ve threatened to quit blogging a thousand times. Then something pisses me off or amuses the hell out of me so I have to write about it.

I did want to add something – when I came back from my 3 year hiatus, I was welcomed with open arms by all my old blogging buddies. They not only remembered me after all that time, they welcomed me back warmly. If you ever decide to get back into the game, you will be welcomed.
Unless you turn republican, then we’ll have to beat you up… 🙂
Michael I agree that you probably need a break. You are welcome to post here whenever the mood strikes you. There is no pressure to post, no blog to maintain, no wondering if you really have anything interesting to say on any given day.

I’m done. It’s not that I don’t care anymore, it’s just that I don’t have anything else to say. At this point I’m just answering name calling from the right. They call us idiots, so we call the morons. They call the President a socialist, we call GWB an idiot. I used to have points to make, but I don’t anymore. I’ve made my points about GWB, Cheney, Gay rights, racial tension, political infighting, health care, education, the wars, the Constitution, etc. I just don’t have anything new or original to add. Plus, my personal life is a mess and at some point everything else just becomes inconsequential. I apologize if some feel like I’ve let you down somehow, but there’s just no more passion left. The Republicans are going to continue to spew bile and hatred toward the administration, but I just find it hard to muster the outrage to respond anymore. Thankfully, as evidenced by the chain of comments to this post, there are more than enough of you who still have the fire in your belly. So keep up the good fight and I’ll continue to follow this little group of people who I think are the best writers on the web.

Writing to me is like breathing. I don’t think I’d know how to not do it. And there is an awesome amount of militant stupidity in the world to serve as a motivator.
That being said, I can’t really find it in me to be critical of anyone who decides to stop. A favorite blogger of mine recently called it quits, and while I wish she hadn’t, I can understand her position. People often have other stuff going on that the rest of us don’t know about, or they have only so much energy, or they just get burned out and need to slow down.
Nevertheless, it looks like there will always be plenty of us speaking out to denounce the arrogant and the stupid.
Oh, and better a knucklehead than a knuckle-dragger.
I read the text of her speech on her awful site “Keep America Safe”, I couldn’t bear to watch it, plus I’d rather read (applause) (cheering) than hear it. She is pretty consistent, just keeps hammering away on national security, as if she is some kind of expert, she is reading a populist script, and very probably, very soon, running for office.

After reading your post SJ I went outside and dug a 6×6 hole in my back yard and then filled it in again, how about that for energy.
Well the GOP is turning up the heat, suggesting we are experimenting with Obama as one would with illicit drugs, the worst day of the Obama Presidency will be miles better than any day of the Bush/Cheney regime and the glorious thing is, we don’t have to make stuff up, we don’t have to lie about nothing, just keep beating them upside the head with their own lying words.

I watched MSNBC’s coverage of these idiots: DeMint, Rubio, Cheney, Mattera and others. I listened with open mouth and astonished ears, then I remembered who was doing the talking.
They are the liars, the hypocrites, and the obstructionists. They are the Jesus Jumpers, the warmongers, the racists, and the climate change deniers.
I remembered how they almost destroyed our country during the 14 years they were in power.
I also remembered that televisions are most versatile indeed and I changed the channel to Malcolm in the Middle . It made more sense and was intellectually superior to anything I heard from that Right Wing podium.
In conclusion, I may stop listening to these nutters from time to time, because it is bad for my health, but even though I didn’t make SJ’s short list, 🙂 I will never stop blogging about them, not today, or tomorrow or next week, The world needs to know that fools walk among us and if we are not careful they may well end up leading us….again!
