BOYCOTT THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL~!

Read Time:2 Minute, 5 Second

For years I’ve written about the non integrity of The Discovery Channel… pimping any sensationalist theme in order to boost ratings.   Personal friend authors who have been mis-quoted, filmed and edited out of context (most especially relative to Maya calendrical studies and facts) … but this takes the fricking cake!

From the Huffington Post: [“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” is officially headed to Discovery Communication’s TLC.The network that exploded over the last year with the help of “Jon & Kate” has acquired eight episodes of Palin’s documentary-style tour of her home state, produced with reality kingpin Mark Burnett.

It is a strange move for Discovery — the purveyor of such classics as “Planet Earth” and “Life” and the parent of Planet Green and Treehugger — to sign with Palin, whose anti-nature stances include denying climate change, supporting aerial wolf-hunting, and, most famously, “Drill baby, drill!”  The New York Times asked a Discovery spokesman if Palin would address her views on climate change on the show; the spokesman would only say, “the deal was just concluded this week and now we begin the development and production.”  The move comes on the heels of Discovery’s revamp of the Planet Green network away from strictly eco-friendly programming; the network recently unveiled a primetime slate called Verge, about “conscious living and provocative storytelling,” but not about green themes.

“Our family enjoys Discovery’s networks,” Palin said. “I look forward to working with Mark to bring the wonder and majesty of Alaska to all Americans.”  Burnett, who created “Survivor,” described Palin as “a dynamic personality that has captivated millions.”

“I can’t think of anyone more compelling than Sarah Palin to tell the story of Alaska,” he said. “I’m thrilled to reunite with Discovery on this project, which brings together one of the most fascinating figures of our time with one of the most wondrous places on earth.”

“Discovery Communications is so excited to help Sarah Palin tell the story of Alaska, and to have a great documentary filmmaker in Mark Burnett helping to reveal Alaska’s powerful beauty as it has never been filmed, and as told by one of the state’s proudest daughters,” Discovery COO Peter Ligouri added.

“TLC is grounded in great storytelling, strong characters, and passionate audiences drawn to extraordinary people doing extraordinary things,” TLC boss Eileen O’Neill said. “We are confident Sarah Palin’s Alaska will be another compelling television event.”]

Aw, bullshit!  They are sellouts to ratings…. and NOW MAYBE INTELLIGENT PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS WILL BOYCOTT THEIR FRIGGIN NETWORK!

One more thing: THIS is Sarah Palin’s Alaska: toxic runoff, the rape and plunder of her natural resources, disregard and disrespect of anything that doesn’t bring money into the state (which, by the way gets more federal handouts than any of the other states), and finally, the calculated annihilation of endangered species by any means, no matter how cruel or shortsighted. Read “Going Rouge” (Not ROGUE) by O/R Books–it’ll open your eyes even further about her enormous ambition, greed, lies, and last but not least, monumental stupidity.

After reading about 25-30 of the opinions above, I wondet what the demograph of the responders are. I would like to know what part of the U S you are from and the town size you live in. The reason I ask is that I lve outside a rural community in Northern Minnesota. Here we take nature very seriously. We do realize that there are millions of you out there that will never know the fullment of harvesting your own food for your family. It’s not always easy to drive uptown and purchase your food. There are those that can put fresh meat on their families table by doing so. The reason I bring this up is the fact that most people who bash the idea of the wolf hunting (by plane or any oter means) don’t have a clue about keeping a balance in nature. Some of us still rely on the land for a substancial part of our diet. We hunt and we do gardening. In these poor economic times we have to make due. I’m for drilling for domestic oil and building more refineries until a good altwrnative duel is perfected. I cannot afford gas prices as they are. My point is, I guess, until America stops listening to all these special interest groups, we’ll continue sliding down the path to mediocrocy. We are so afraid of “offending” someone that we have lost what madebthis a great nation, and that is govern to the majority and don’t try to make everyone “happy”. It can’t be done. See what it’s done in the last 20 years…….I welcome replies.

y are. g a balance in nature.anyr other means), don’t have a clue about keeping a balance in nature. soo.

I am beside myself about this. What idiot made this decision?! I am so disappointed in Discovery for making such a bad choice and want to do something more than signing petitions or sending emails to let them know of my disappointment. What about a writing campaign to the advertisers? Please, let’s unite on this one. Is there someone out there with the organizational skills to launch this campaign?

As a student I was sick to my stomach when I first heard the news about Palin and Discovery.

In response I have decided to start a boycott of discovery and its related channels at my school. I have also sent notices to all the advertisers on discovery advising them of product boycott as well.

Since the crazy right only understands $$’s.

I have always been a fan of the Discovery channel, but now that they have shown their true colors by aligning with a worthless piece of sh*t like Palin, I will never watch any of their offerings again and will encourage all to boycott all of their advertisers.

If you would like to see our connect the dots post on how nefarious Rupert Murdoch of Fox News infamy is actually behind this deal, check out http://palingates.blogspot.com

Murdoch’s involvement explains how an otherwise respected brand would degrade themselves in this way, doesn’t it?

I thought the Disney Channel owned Discovery. I am upset that Murdoch owns it.

You know Gwen sometimes there good and bad things which inter-mingle. I dislike Sarah Palin and her politics about as much as anyone on this planet. She is dumber than a rock and anyone with intelligence knows that. I think even she knows it. But, on the flip side the more she becomes known as a personality the less serious she will be taken in the political arena. And let’s face it, she was pulled out of nothingness by John McCain and she has refused to go back into nothingness quietly. She is going to make as much money as she can, while she can before even here fans figure out her political dumbness. I am a be fan of The Discovery Channel and all its outlets and occasionally they do make some gaffs. But overall they do a really great job and don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater. You do know that the Discovery Network is a branch of The New York Times don’t you. They have already invested the money and Palin has enough supporters to carry the show. I don’t think we could scare them off even if we wanted to, and I don’t.

Huing close to the bone Lazer! As you should… and so did I … I guess I digress from most of my blogmates on this one… but that’s cool. I still say bah humbug on Discovery for embracing Palin and yes, too for being, at the end of the day, sell outs to ratings. I thought Discovery was a branch of Disney… glad to know it isn’t… now that would hurt this pirate. KO is on…

Even the GOP is distancing itself form this unfortunate woman now.

It’s time Discovery Channel re-evaluate their association with her lest she manage to destroy their channel just as she’s now destroying the Republican party.

Palin’s final error – publishing hate mail which is a crime in this country.

If Discovery wants to be associated forever with a woman of such low esteem and juvenile lack of self-control, then so be it and Discovery network will suffer the losses.

I plan to boycott this network if/when they provide a platform for this woman whom I would permit around my children.

Words have power; images have power. This map disqualifies this woman as a legitimate member of our democracy. She’s now aligned with all of the racists & haters out there spewing their evil on our streets.

Rosie

We cannot support any channel who props up and financially supports a terror-incitor like Palin. She began amping up the racism in her stump speeches which endangered everyone attending them. Now she’s put out a “hit list” with “crosshairs” over the Dems she wants to eliminate. Asking her fans to “reload”.

There is NO WAY in hell that our children should be exposed to the overt hatred of this Quitter/Loser/Racist. Besides she was a member (and Todd still is) of the AIP, Alaska’s Secessionist Party – totally Anti-American.

Many are saying that charges should be brought against her for making her fatal error of publishing a “hate map”. This is hate speech and now the public has prima facie evidence of the diabolical intentions of this woman. She’s finally “outed herself”

Discovery will be seriously boycotted along with it’s sponsors if you become affiliated with a domestic terror incitor like Palin.

I just hope that if she does get this job, someone else will do the research and writing. I’ve been told that Rupert Murdoch owns The Discovery Channel? If so, maybe this is a move to get SP away from Fox??

I say they should have the Dingbat guest star on other discovery shows instead. I would SO love to see her down in a roach-infested sewer with Mike Rowe, as a stand-in for the crash-test dummy on Mythbusters (though the CTD has a higher IQ), eating goat eyeballs along with Bear Grylls, and sorting crab guts on the Deadliest Catch. For this she should be paid he same as the star she is standing in for.

Shame on Discovery Channel! Shame on any advertiser who supports Sarah Palin following her now-infamous map of hate – her ‘hit list’ where she asked people to ‘reload’. This woman uses violent language whenever she speaks. She knows nothing else. She did it on the stump and she’s doing it now from her FB page. This time she stepped over the “legal edge” however with publishing her hate map. This goes well beyond the boundaries of good taste or legality in this country.

I think if Discovery NOW continues to negotiate with this woman they do so at the loss of their viewership as well as their sponsors. The boycott petition is gathering steam and the people will prevail and make our voices heard on this incitement of violence in our democracy.

Life is produced by the BBC. It’s being shown in the US on TDC, but you can get it from the BBC and still not be supporting TDC.

I remember that before going to war with Iraq was even being mentioned as a possibility in the media, but after 9-11, TDC began showing quite a few documentaries about the evils perpetrated by Saddam Hussein. I always wondered if that was coincidence or someone from the Whitehouse contacted the TDC and asked they start showing all their Saddam doc’s.

Actually there is a lot of good TV out there Infidel. It just depends on what one is looking for. Examples: I would never watch a soap opera, but know people who do. I rarely watch sports (except World Series and Super Bowl). I would never watch the Kardashians or shows of that ilk, but I know people who do. I think it goes back to the old saying that one man’s meat is another man’s poison. Then again, if a friend of mine watched The Palin’s new show I would be VERY surprised, but I don’t think I would judge him or her. Not everyone despises this hypocritical, wolf killing, empty headed, gold digger 🙂 🙂

Angel… I am a non-conformist descent-er… I’ll find most the best stuff replayed elsewhere. I think it’s important to take a stand with what you feel is an issue… like I said in my intro, I know this complex of production to be unscrupulous and ratings ho’s. Yet; as MM said, unfair of me to dismiss whole groups of folks… ***ENJOY*** sincerely! My miss out.

Infidel, MM is right… there is SO MUCH to find on tv that is wonderful, relevant, moving, inspiring, educational, consciousness expanding! Just loads of it. there was a post a couple of months ago, I think Beach made it… we all compared our fav shows…and it seemed most of us generally aligned with the shows we enjoyed.
The one sport I always watch: surfing. Its like a visual meditation!

I like Survivor and love Amazing Race. I know several dozen people, none Tea-baggers, but doctors, lawyers, engineers, fellow professors, and lots of other good and decent folk who hail from all walks of life, that also enjoy these innocent “reality” shows. I enjoy watching people pitted against each other without the bloodshed you see in more physical competitions. Because we like these shows hardly means we don’t have “personally authentic” lives.

The Palin is hosting a “travelogue” and not a reality show. I won’t watch it but I won’t boycott Discovery. Again, I don’t agree that us “Survivor mentality” folks will “grasp” onto The Palin’s show. They are as different as day and night and comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges.

Reprimand / point taken, Mad Mike.

I for my part, have experienced a lot of obnoxious people who place their personal capabilities and goals in tandem with ‘reality’ shows (and even though family and friends have their favs) I push away from opinions like that…somehow I can be scrappy around them… my bad. There have been exceptions for me… Survivor has never been one. The Osbournes was. In the end, your point is valid… folks are amused by different themes / memes.
I keep boycotting Whole Foods and WalMart… many of my friends see it as futile or self destructive to my wallet… yet I feel my efforts count. Just like all the folks who enjoy Survivor and who will doubtless adore Sarah on TLC will count too. Wrong of me to dismiss whole groups of People. I still find the sentiment of my conclusion true for me, even when I myself measure up to exactly that. And it’s not hard for me to boycott Discovery or Learning Ch’s… many of the best science and arts shows are on PBS or BBC channels that I explore.

Alan, ‘reality tv’ generally gets up my ass a mile. Survivor is visual hard on for those who can’t ‘get it up’ for living a personally authentic life! I do admit to watching the house giveaway show… couple of other instances of altruistic tv I’ve watched they called ‘reality’ … yet on the whole, its shits and giggles for the brows buried in slime. As you see, I feel strongly about it…
omy…
🙂

oh OH! and it doesn’t surprise me one little bit that it’s the “Survivor” mentality folks who have grasped onto this TTB.
