To the Republicans: SHUT UP AND BRING IT!!!
A few moments ago MSNBC’s Morning Joe happily entertained a sputtering Indiana Congressman Mike Pence as he threatened to throw everything but the kitchen sink at the Democrats. He screeched and squawked about repeal, revise, huge tax increases, defeat for all Dems in November, and, well..you know the drill. I came across this great editorial just as Pence was winding down:
As I noted over the weekend, the Republicans were just constantly trying to help Democrats out, warning them how bad it would be for them if they passed Reform. Clearly, the Democrats didn’t take that good advice and passed it anyway. Monday morning, they were back at it telling Dems it’s just going to be downright awful for them in November.
But now the bill’s signed. It’s law. It’s over. And they’re still saying how bad it’ll be. But, enough. Eventually you’ve to stop with the sizzle and deliver the steak — unless how bad Reform is for the Democrats is now actually the Republican campaign platform.
As I’ve said countless times, I don’t doubt this is going to be a rough election for the Dems. I know Reform could cost them their majorities (though I think unemployment is the much bigger factor). We all get that. But it’s time for Republicans to stop saying how bad it’s going to be and just go out and do it.
Make the arguments on substance. Not about how the bill filing wasn’t filled out with a No. 2 pencil or whatever other nonsense. They may not realize this: but the Republicans can’t run on how bad Reform is going to be for the Dems politically. That’s very meta, to put it mildly. You can’t be so transparently cynical with your riffs that they don’t even make sense on their own terms. They need to run on repeal. So, enough. The terms of the 2010 election are set. Stop puffing and threatening, shut up and bring it on.

It’s obvious that MSM is controlled by corporate America. It’s also obvious that the Republicans side with the insurance companies. It’s the ” I’ve got mine the hell with you attitude” that came out quite clear in the end.
You said it Demeur. I think they are still suffering from Obama shock. They can’t get over the fact that George Bush and his gang of thieves is no longer in charge.
The Republicans are insane and need to have their heads examined, as I suggest in my new post.
Looking forward to reading that one Jack…
I don’t get MSNBC so Moaning Joe is all French to me, I did see Mika on Colbert a few weeks back, she seems like she can handle herself.
“Make the arguments on substance”? If they had any, they’d have been doing that for the last year instead of blabbering about death panels and Communism. I think they really believed they could stop this from passing (and there were a few times when it was looking close). Now that it’s passed, it will actually go into force and the voters will judge it based on what they see it actually doing, not based on the Republicans’ histrionics. I don’t think they anticipated that; it’s not in the script, and now that it’s happened, they haven’t figured out what to do about it.
Well, most of them haven’t. Check out this morning’s post at Politics Plus for the latest violence and death threats. Not pleasant reading.
@Infidel..I am on my way to PP now. It is true that the Republicans are in a tizzy. Their fear, and it is justified, is that now the people will see the truth and hammer them in November.
Thank you for watching Mourning Joe so I don’t have to. Him and his real doll Mika just don’t do it for me. To think her dad is one of the great minds is depressing.
I rather like Mika and I seriously like her Dad. Then again, Mika can also be irritating but not so much as Jumpin’ Joe.
Joe does his best to hide it but deep down he is just another ignorant and deluded Teabagger at heart. I swear one morning he reminded everyone at least twenty times he was a “small and limited government conservative”.
I agree Beach. He went on a rant yesterday morning and for a moment I thought I was listening to a Red State Rightie!
I just don’t listen to morning joe any more… I put on music or Charmed. 🙂 And ditto on much of the media during the day. Unless, there is a special breaking news or event… ya know?
I’d rather start the day with smile!
