THE TIMES (AND POST), THEY ARE A-CHANGIN’
Newspapers are shrinking and, alas, many are dying away. That has me worrying about the job market for print journalists, as well as the implications for the quality and depth of news put out there for the populace.
Until now, however, I hadn’t considered this broader cultural ramification reported by the fine journos at The Onion.

The eventuality of technonews taking the place of actual print as in papers and mags, is real. Not just the costs, also the raw resources. The net is filling the gaps and it’s about INTEGRITY of news… Gad, even the Wash Post has been printing bullshit. WSJ used to be a masthead for integrity and now it’s sketchy. NYTimes is following close behind. The Daily Beast is crap, and it started out so well… HuffPo at least you know it’s amalgamation, but even they have BS alerts. The Salon, The Nation, Mother Jones, all the little outfits of liberal bent have maintained the validity of their sources. Rolling Stone has more integrity right now than the Wall Street Journal. Geesh. Great post, good vid, Stimpson. 🙂
Good grief!!! We cannot possibly lose The Times can we?
An 80 year boycott? Now that is impressive! I’ve only boycotted Brussel Sprouts for 40 years!!!
Mind you I know my onions….
Stimpson-great stuff huh!
Funny but poignant, I worked in the business for many years (I still love the smell of newsprint) and it is dying. Hold the front page for a few more years please.
That was extremely well done. I bet that they had to do a lot of takes, though (participants cracking up, etc.).
Onions? Do I smell onions? Sigh! Always be careful with your onions. I love onions. Praise Jesus…
Got it, Oso, and it was LOL funny 🙂
Thanks for the tip on the LL Bean story, Oso. The Onion – U.S. journalism at its finest.
Hi Bee, sent you a link.
There’s been an 80 year boycott of LL Bean? WOW, I can’t even hold a grudge that long, and I can hold a grudge, lemme tell ya.
Stimpson,
The Onion is always great. And it’s true-stacks and stacks of newspapers at loonhouses.
Did you watch the video on the 80 year Black boycott of LL Bean still going strong?
