David Stone (top row, far left) was the leader of a Christian militia, based in rural Michigan, called the “Hutaree.” In an indictment against the nine unsealed on Monday, the Justice Department said they were part of a group of apocalyptic Christian militants who were plotting to kill law enforcement officers in hopes of inciting an anti-government uprising, the latest in a recent surge in right-wing militia activity.
The court filing said the group, planned to kill an unidentified law enforcement officer and then bomb the funeral caravan using improvised explosive devices based on designs used against American troops by insurgents in Iraq.
“This is an example of radical and extremist fringe groups which can be found throughout our society,” Andrew Arena, the F.B.I. special agent in charge in Detroit, said in a statement. “The F.B.I. takes such extremist groups seriously, especially those who would target innocent citizens and the law enforcement officers who protect the citizens of the United States.”
The Hutaree — a word Mr. Stone apparently made up to mean Christian warriors — saw the local police as “foot soldiers” for the federal government, which the group viewed as its enemy, along with other participants in what the group’s members deemed to be a “New World Order” working on behalf of the Antichrist, the indictment said.
Apparently this bunch of lowlifes are asking for public defenders to represent them. What wicked irony.

In the first news story I saw about this, David Stone’s ex-wife was quoted as saying: “You start off going to church and wanting to protect your family. I think David might have carried it a little too far.”

Killing is morally wrong. No excusing it or qualifying it, it’s just wrong…nevermind the karmic consequences, the here and now consequences to heartmind serve just as well. Murders have the distinctive devolution ‘humanity’ and they are outcast from themselves. Usually by means of insanity.
I was banned from the “kirk” (which is what the church is called in southern Ireland) by a freaky little village priest when visiting my cousins there in ’80. I was banned because I sat at the local pub in discussion and condemned the ‘militia’ or what we all thought of as terrorists among the IRA for taking innocent life regardlessly. The priest called me a heretic. I still wear that well. The two birds in jalopy flight here are the church and the violence of intolerance. (BTW, of course the British are bloody wrong for Plantation!) But notice, how well the church manipulates violence? It’s their contribution to noblesse oblige.
When someone threatens you with violence, you are left choice-less, you defend yourself. I would not remain motionless in the face of a violent threat to myself or really, anyone … least of all my family or loved ones. But; it’s often analyzed that these ‘ethics’ are at the base of any extremism. Catch (you) 22. The case of American nutters above are cruel bullies who created a cleaver cast system to embrace their particular form of unbalanced extremist violence. There is no kind of excusery for them.
It’s also the easy, steady ‘woody’ for those considerably less self aware and more self loathing, deep down in their personal south.

Look. There’s nowt wrong with religion if it turns you on but, ultimately, you have to kill all extremists.
Sounds radical? Not really. Most peeps are not extremist.
Kill all extremists – and yes I would pull the trigger – and we get moderate sensible religious peeps left.

A) Make it a safer world
B) Remove the loonies
C) Create extra housing

These guys were so extreme that they got ratted out by the other militias.
The arrests must have made other militia groups more than a little nervous. The trial should be a beauty.
