Five Killed in Attacks in Northern Iraq
So who says that Iraq is now a “safe” place thanks to George Bush and the “surge?” Why it was Dick Cheney of course. Given today’s terrible news out of that beleaguered nation, however, I am not sure declaring Iraq as “safe” is accurate. Just a few short hours ago more innocent civilians were killed. Here is the story from the Associated Press:
Iraqi authorities say five people including a child have been killed in a pair of attacks near the northern city of Mosul.
A police officer said two policemen and one soldier were killed when a bomb exploded next to their joint patrol Saturday morning about 40 miles (60 kilometers) south of Mosul. A doctor confirmed the deaths.
Another police officer says a second roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army patrol went off around noon, killing a soldier and a child. The attack came in an area about 16 miles (25 kilometers) south of Mosul.
The officials all spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to discuss details with the press.
Violence has plummeted since its height in 2006 and 2007 but attacks continue, especially in the north.

It may be a fresh week for Scott Pruitt, but it’s not one void of uncomfortable headlines. Everyone knows what the 2012 Republican theme song is going to be:
Who lost Iraq?
Second part of the theme song would be “Our guy ain’t Black”!
Good points Vigil and Oso. I can already hear the refrain.
What I find so frustrating is so many Americans blame the victim. “inherent Muslim violence” or “those people always blow themselves up” or whatever inane bit of commentary we choose to absolve ourselves of the blame for invading a stable country for our own reasons, none of them benefiting Iraqis.
One of the work teabaggers said the solution is just get our troops out and nuke the place, to the delight of his fellow morons. I asked for clarification-if we invade a nation for its resources and its people resist,we have the right to wipe them off the earth? The teabagger just shrugged his shoulders.
I am ashamed to say Oso that I have been guilty of making similar statements when it came to Afghanistan. I have said that we need to pull out of there. If the terrorists re-establish a presence and present a clear and present danger to the United States we need to bomb them, as opposed to having boots on the ground for years and years.
Mike,
nothing to be ashamed of IMO cause your thoughts were within a framework of a defined enemy, who you saw as a threat to the US. You’re not the “nuke ’em all” type because you’ve always decried violence against civilians.
