The Ghetto Cardinal on Mariachi Mass
Many of us Catholics see the ceremony of mass as an integral part of our beliefs. We enjoy the ceremony. The dogma infringing on women’s rights, the horrors visited upon the Americas by the Church, the unforgivable abuse and violation of children by clergy and its horrors-maybe like a parent who never gives up on a child no matter his or her crime, us believers still have faith and that faith is reinforced by the ceremony.
Some churches have a ceremony where the parts of the Mass where the Congregation or the Lector or certain evocations of the Priest are taken by a Mariachi Band. Here is an example where the Kyrie Elieson (Lord Have Mercy) is performed.

I liked it, Oso. It reminds me that the church is really it’s people and not the vile acts of some of its leaders.
Hi TC!
Yes exactly, you summed my feelings and thoughts up perfectly. With all those vile acts, and the pontiff literally looking like a lizard-it can be reassuring to see some people simply enjoying the services. Hope you’re feeling well man!
Now that looks like fun…that would be worth getting up on a Sunday morning for 😉
Very enjoyable, Oso!
Always nice to see you Vigil.
Hi Vig,
This isn’t San Gabriel but that’s where I used to go for a similar Mass.
Back in the day (I know Oso, I know :-)) when I actually attended Mass (I was even an altar boy) I loved the Latin. I loved the pomp and the circumstance. I loved it so much that when they switched to English I switched to Atheism 🙂
Mike ROFL I gotta back off on the age thing, closing in on 59 so we’re not that far apart.
I always liked the ceremony too. Hey if they start doing mariachi mass in your area maybe it’ll switch you back 🙂
LOL–You never know Oso, then again Catholic churches are few and far between in the Heart of Darkness known as The Deep South.
Is that your church? Everyone looked like they were having fun! It is very different than the Catholic masses I have attended.
You still go to the family reunion even if your drunk uncle Ernie is there. After all, he is just one man and shouldn’t spoil your fun and fellowship.
The Ernie in our family isn’t a drunk though, just an asshole. Known as Erndog, sometimes Erndog the asshole.
The Mariachi Mass is a whole lot different to the Masses I used to attend as a youth. Way back then they were in Latin, lots of bells and incense. The church I went to had an 8am, 9.30am and 11am Sunday Mass. Now I believe they have just one Mass per Sunday morning. Changing times.
Lector???? You have him there???? Now that is worrying!!!!
My mistake, Not the Kyrie but the Gloria (Glory).

I guess we all have a drunk uncle Ernie!
No this isn’t mine, but is similar to one I used to attend in San Gabriel, which is near Los Angeles and is located in the old San Gabriel Mission which was built during the late 18th century, back when Mike was a toddler!
LOL LOL LOL!! You got me again 🙂
