Octopus vs Shark-Who wins? Battle of Blood (video)!

Read Time:40 Second

What happens when you put dogfish sharks, which have been known to feed on octopuses from time to time, in the same aquarium tank with a giant pacific octopus? The aquarium’s keepers figured the octopus would be able to evade the predator easily enough, so they didn’t worry about it—until they started finding shark corpses on the bottom of the tank. They put a camera into the tank and discovered that it wasn’t the octopus that was in danger. The resultant video has been making the rounds on YouTube lately, in part because it’s awesome, and in part because Detroit fans were hoping it would give the Octopus-loving Red Wings a chance over the San Jose Sharks. No such luck.

An octopus, being the distant relative of Cthulhu, will always win in a deathmatch! Especially one it starts! Should it lose, it can spare a limb and evade capture, then inflict non-Euclidean nightmares upon its enemies as it waits to heal.

I am actually younger in “Yuggoth” years. And I weigh less on R’lyeh.

Octopuses, as the video reminds us, have limbs. They’re pretty smart, too (I’ve heard of an octopus learning how to unscrew the lid of a jar to get at food inside), whereas sharks are just fish. Also, that first shark looked really fat. They’re probably too out-of-shape to take on the octopus.

Agreed. I don’t see an octopus having such an easy time with a more active shark.

This is a great video. I am surprised it didn’t get a little more activity.

I have eaten octopus (bit rubbery, tastes like chicken), eaten shark (flaky white meat, tastes like fish), so if an octopus was given a shark meat diet it might improve to overall taste and texture of octopus, so a tip to the octopus family, stop eating sharks, or we might find you more appetizing.
