Oregon: Jesus Rules Baseball Team-Pray before you Play or Else

Read Time:1 Minute, 15 Second

In a disappointing decision a Little League board of directors in Medford, Oregon has voted to allow a coach to continue engaging in Christian indoctrination (evangelism) during games and practices.

Forcing children to endure religious propaganda in order to play baseball is wrong. Coach Mike Miles reported another coach, Chris Palmer, for leading team prayers and quoting biblical scripture before and during games and practices. However, the league sided with the other coach, saying his prayers were within the league’s religious guidelines.

A spokesman for the National Little League, Lance Van Aukin, said the issue of prayer is left to local boards. He added that local boards can also decide whether teams recite the Little League Pledge and sing the national anthem.

The pledge says, ‘I trust in God. I love my country and will respect its laws. I will play fair and strive to win. But win or lose, I will always do my best.”

To add insult to injury, Miles was fired for complaining about the proselytizing coach. Miles was removed as a coach and from the little league board, as well.

The Little League is a private organization, so any legal challenge may be problematic. Yet a legal challenge should not even be a necessary consideration. The Medford Little League should have the good sense to keep religion off the field.

It is a shame that a few over zealous Christians insist on forcing their narrow superstitions upon innocent children, who only want a chance to play baseball.

On the plus side he isn’t muslim. Waving a baseball bat from your arse (or ass as you lot say) isn’t going to be condusive to winning many games…-)

I hope some Muslim coach out there decides to try this. The reaction would be quite comical.

I agree Mike my friend but you beat the hell out of dead horse so I guess it is going to heaven also. These are among the same folks who were most likely Tea Baggers. It is disgraceful that in order for kids of families who wish to keep there religious practices private or might be something other than Christian have to endure the constant pressure of the Christian folks.
