Remembering Ronald Reagan – A Real President
In times like these, one is forced to think back 30 years to when we had a President who knew to communicate and take responsibility for his actions. Ronald Reagan, a real president, not like the ones we get these days.

I didn’t like him either. I just got back in town and I need to catch up. I can’t believe everything that is happening over here. You guys have gotten huge.
Hi johnnyredfox, welcome back.
They bloody loved him over here in England. I didn’t. Couldn’t stand the bastard, not because of him necessarily but he didn’t run on his own tyres did he? He had that Nancy woman running the show and that was too much for this old Englishman.
Not another Brit, not Four Dinner brother are you?
I know this is gonna offend some people, ok it’s probably gonna offend everyone but Ronnie wasn’t viewed as a good guy by all of us. Lot of people hated him, like when he was governor making a point of having table grapes on the podium to mock striking farmworkers. When he got shot is instructive. Not saying it’s right and not saying it’s patriotic but it’s human nature to know who your enemy is.
I was working downtown LA, all union techs with one White guy in the crew.It was a party atmosphere after the shooting except for the one guy who was relieved Reagan survived the shooting, kept walking around saying “Pretty tough old bird huh?” while everybody ignored him.
The Reagan guy and I got along as long as we discussed working out, the next day he asked me if my gym had been open. I said why wouldn’t it be, he said because of Reagan. His gym was in an affluent area. It was open but he told me everyone was just walking around in shock. Not touching the weights, just talking in hushed tones.
My gym was ghetto, business as usual. Only mention was the following conversation:
“Hear about Reagan?”
“Yeah, somebody shot him or somethin'”.
“Yeah”.
That was it. Not saying it’s right. It is what it is.
I’m hearing you Oso. My mother campaigned for him… I, of course, did not. He sailed into office and the assassination attempt assured his second term…. I mean, Mondale? PLUEZE! I am still the black sheep of family. Heheheheh.
Have you ever noticed that Republicans leave the highest office in the land and then go try to make major $? And that Democrats leave the highest office in the land, make all kinds of money for all kinds of good efforts, charities, world organizations… put bunches of it into the bank and manage to even win Nobel prizes (even VP’s!)…. I’ve always noted it.
you make a good point,Gwen. Carter vs Reagan or GHWB, both made huge $ for themselves sitting on boards and making canned speeches. Reagan in particular was well thought of in Japan for all the help he gave to their auto industry, allowing big inroads into the US. Whereas Carter had made good works his post-presidential legacy.
Damn, if I was to think back 30 years, I would be thinking back to nothingness, since I wasn’t even a tingle up the sperm donor’s leg. I am going to try this exercise later when I’m buzzed, see if it works.
And he was senile – long before he left office.
Senile before he took the oath.
Have some respect.
Harry, how about you buying the flowers for the millions that are dead from Reagan’s Aspartame…as a sign of respect…after all, today is Memorial Day…
Great one, Holte.
“A few months ago I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that’s true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not”.
Only Reagan could have said that and not been tarred and feathered.
Snake Oil Salesman is what he was, or his scriptwriters were.
Of course Holte realizes that Gwen blends and sells a true blue Sanke Medicine Oil in her Animal Medicine Oil collection…. ahem! LYFAO
Trickle down anyone?
Good example OSO. Anybody else would have been tarred, but the Teflon President just kept it coming.
Imagine your wife or girlfriend walking in on you and some present tryst! Suddenly you blurt out, “My heart and good intentions tell me that I’m still faithful, but the evidence of my raging woody here tells me different.”
Ya, it would work!
ROFL excellent example man!
Let’s not forget his early career of giving up all of those names to the FBI and the House Un-American Activities during the Red menace of the 40’s and 50’s.
All those communist sympathizers and anyone else that got in the way of him or his friends.
Exactly, and prior to him being a stooly, wasn’t he a union leader in the Actor’s Guild?
Example of Reaganism..
President Reagan, after ignoring all of the foreign political experts advice on arms limitation, with mountains of policy data and theory, changes his mind after seeing a movie on tv call “The Day After”.
Yes that’s right, Strategic Arms Limitation Talks begin again in Iceland because of a ……movie of the week!
He always applied Hollywood “magic” and simpleton plots as his guidelines of leadership. Surprised that when he announced at a press conference that he was supplying stingers to the “Freedom Fighters”, he didn’t yell out Wolverines!
Krell,
Story may be apocryphal, supposedly he was in Europe remembering his involvement in WW2 that actually was from a movie he was in?
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Ronnie never saw any military time.
“I have declared the Soviet Union illegal! We begin bombing in 5 minutes!”….oh is this mike on?…Hello?…
I believe he was a captain in the army but never left LA county. Made USO films.
Even mass murders do good things. How many times have you heard “…but he was such a good boy.”
Jerry, LOL! And serial killers are always such nice, quiet, keep to themselves type neighbors 🙂
I liked Reagan, he did good things too.
Stop by again Harry and tell us what some of the good things were.
PS…I did not make this up…
That is CBS 60 minutes and FOX reporting…
Copy the whole link though, to get the correct stuff
I remember it all well. When he was elected my wife and I teared. Not out of Joy but we new what was to come and how lasting it would be. Jelly bean anyone?
Tears are still flowing as the things he set in motion continue to squeeze us.
WOW! And he is the One that republicans hold up as a god. No wonder I am not a republican.
They slag off Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower, but love this guy? I don’t get it.
