Bad news from the Gulf this afternoon: BP is calling off its “top kill” operation after it failed to plug the oil leak in several attempts over three days. “We have not been able to stop the flow,” said chief operating officer Doug Suttles. “We have made the decision to move onto the next option.” That next option is expected to take four days to complete. BP will use robot submarines to cut off the damaged riser from which the oil is leaking, and then try to cap it with a containment valve. This time, it will be easier to follow progress on the live feed. “We’re confident the job will work but obviously we can’t guarantee success,” Suttles said.

Can someone clarify here. I think I’m right.

BP acknowledged responsibility to clear up this disaster but have yet to acknowledge it is ‘their’ disaster?

Probably a moot point really seeing as wildlife and the fishing industry is getting ‘oiled’ but I’m just wondering.

If it’s your spill BP why not say it. Why say “We’ll take responsibilty for cleaning it up” and stop short?

Ahhhh! Yes!!!! If you admit the disaster in it’s entirity is down to you…legal stuff…

Am I right? No idea. What do you guys think?

The tropical weather season starts next week, even if no major storms enter the Gulf, the heat of the day storms are powerful enough to make a gigantic mess.

They knew about this months ago. Here is a scathing NYT article I have just been reading. They were concerned about this blowout preventer thing last year and the well casing. All about the profit, at the expense of the environment. MMS kept giving them the permits though, WHY in the hell would they do that? Don’t answer, I don’t want to get any more upset about this than I am, or I will start using really foul language. It only took MMS 10 minutes, yes you are reading that right, for one of the permits to be approved, after they had “inadvertantly” given them incorrect information. They did not even tell MMS about their concerns at the time. This is so criminal it is criminal.

Yes, this is all about greed, but I think it goes far beyond that! We need to find alternate energy, one to save the environment, the other to stop these greedy, money hungry bastards that are behind all of this.

This sucks.

There might be a solution in an unlikely place. Probably not though, as it involves Michael Bay and Bruce Willis… http://bit.ly/atPV8R

As bad as this is and it really sucks a dirty little secret is Cleanup workers are getting sick. Some of these people are getting paid and some are volunteers. It doesn’t matter. There getting sick trying to help. Question is why are they getting sick? There not being protected as in proper PPE. Personal Protective Equipment. Any fool can read the MSDS sheets and see what the work crew is experiencing is in line with symptoms of exposure. The dispersant in this case is the culprit. Corexit is being used and has been in use for over 30 years. Two types are being used in the Gulf. The crude in of itself is bad but is compounded with the corexit. Only today have officials reluctantly have said “we if they need Respirators we’ll get them”. Really…Just hand them out. No fit testing, no training, or type of filter needed. This short sight could actually make them sicker. Sorry I’ve taken to much time, but this stuff makes my blood boil.

A few days ago, one of the workers had been saying, the reason the respirators were not being given out was it would “look bad” for BP to say there was something wrong. Even yesterday when the prez went there, they brought in hundreds of temp workers to clean up the area he was going to be in. As soon as AF1 was gearing up to leave, so were the temp workers. This is all in an effort for BP to look good in the clean up effort. Just sickens me beyond words, to think there is that kind of mindset in the world, even though I know it is there.
