White House – Repeal “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” this Week

Read Time:54 Second

The White House has given its support to a deal that would lift the ban on gays serving openly in the military while giving the Pentagon plenty of time to implement changes. The compromise will allow lawmakers to vote on repealing the ban as early as this week. But the move won’t take effect until after the Pentagon’s review of the impact of the policy change on readiness, recruitment, and retention is completed later this year, Politico reports.

The White House move is a “dramatic breakthrough,” according to the director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. “We’re talking about a defense personnel policy that should not be a political football,” he said. “We’re on track for a good bipartisan vote.” Republicans, however, have promised unified opposition to the repeal, and the Democrats may struggle to muster enough votes to get the amendment through Congress.

If Alexander the Great were alive today, he could not openly join the US Army. Irrational.

Gays have been in the military for thousands of years, it’s where the men are.

Hey now, there are women there too now. I know, I’ll wait till you get up from the floor after reading that we are just not chained in kitchens, pregnant, cooking for the head of the house the way it should be. Ok I am going outside now, to kick my own ass for even typing that out.

“Are we ready, sir?”

“I don’t know, sergeant, Johnson is gay, better give him a few more minutes.”

2010 and this is still an issue. Someday this nation will grow up, just not anytime soon.

Gays have been serving in the military all along.

The issue is should they have to hide who they are or should they be allowed to be themselves and not worry about who is looking over their shoulder.

It is more a issue of being a career military person who has put in 20 years and suddenly being discovered, instantly losing all that they have worked for.
