A Presidential Speech the Third World would Love to Hear

Madame Speaker, Members of Congress, the American people, citizens of the world-I thank you all for this opportunity to address you on an issue of momentous concern.

The US has always stood by her allies. Always has, always will. Implicit in our championing freedom is our promise to defend freedom throughout the world. So as always, we stand by our ally Israel. Stand by them and work with them for peace. As we all know a friend will stand by his or her friends throughout any crisis, we know too there is a time for a friend to tell a friend they are wrong;an intervention if you will.

We often hear it said “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk”, if need be one takes away a drunk friend’s keys. So too if a nation goes rogue it’s friends need to take away the keys. Such a time has come for our friend and ally Israel. Its attack on an unarmed aid flotilla is just the latest example of this pattern of behavior. Countless refusals to abide by UN resolutions, regular invasions of weak neighbor states, unwillingness to work for genuine peace-the time has come to take away the keys from Israel until that fine nation once again will recognize and abide by the rule of law.

I hereby invoke Article 5 of the NATO Charter, an attack in international waters on a ship of a NATO member is considered an attack on all NATO members. Accordingly I have directed Admiral Mark Fitzgerald to send elements of the US Sixth Fleet to protect the Aid Flotilla as it makes its way to help the people of Gaza. I have directed Incirlik Air Base in Turkey to provide air support , I have dispatched a 2,000 man Marine Expeditionary Force to provide security once the ships arrive in Gaza.

I do not take these steps lightly, not at all. I take them because the cause of freedom is more than an empty slogan used to justify campaign contributions from special interest groups representing foreign nations. The cause of freedom is more than an empty slogan used to brand ones political opponents as unpatriotic. The cause of freedom is the cause of America, the cause of all citizens of the world.

Should Israel accept these actions as a justified response to that nation’s excesses and work with the Palestinians for full right of return and incorporation into a single nation, Muslim and Jewish and Christian together, we shall guarantee full support of all that it takes for a just and lasting peace for all who choose to live there.

But make no mistake-should Israel not accept these actions, should that nation choose to attack or threaten harm to those attempting to provide aid to the people of Gaza and the West Bank-we will consider this an Act of War and no military action will be off the table. Let me say that again-any attack or threat of harm to Gaza or the West Bank, now or in the future will be considered an Act of War against the United States and will be followed by overwhelming military force upon Israel by the combined military forces of the United States and NATO.

I extend the Olive Branch to Israel. Should that nation choose to accept it you will once again be among the friends and allies of the United States of America. Should you not accept it you will have to deal with the consequences.

The choice is yours. Make it wisely.

Thank you, and good night.

No US President could get re-elected and no candidate for President would get past the primary stage if he made a speech resembling the above. The Middle East conflicts, especially the Palestinian v. Israel has become so personal over so many years as to be irreconcilable. Their governments will never be friends and we can’t make them like each other.

Holte,
Can’t argue with that. Any elected leader’d be tarred and feathered. Made me feel good to write it though!

I have nothing against Jewish-Americans nor Cuban-Americans, except for the fact that their political lobbies have fucked up our foreign policy for a long time. In the middle East situation, we have made complete enemies of every nation there, except Israel. It hasn’t boded well for us in terms of blood and treasure. I don’t believe we need to make the threat of war to Israel, but Israel probably needs to be taught a lesson that The USA holds its own safety and welfare in higher regard than Israel’s.

The Israelies have always been incredibly arrogant. Not that I count that against them….Entebbe springs to mind…and did I cheer or what????

Back in the day the Brits tried to achieve a peaceful way of creating a Jewish country.

They (the Brits) were often called ‘Nazis’ by the Jewish people heading that way and many British troops, trying to maintain the peace between Jewish settlers and Palestinians (who, frankly, were being told to ‘give up their country’ at that time – and let’s face it – who wouldn’t be a wee bit pissed off) the British soldiers were often attacked by Jewish settlers.

You can never visit the ‘crimes of the parents’ on the children but, sometimes, you need to research history.

Anyone here know that the original Jewish settlers used ‘terrorist tactics’ against the Brits to get Israel up and running?

I ain’t judging here. Just saying the truth.

So there you go and here we are…

Mike I understand your feelings. I felt the same way as you do up till a few years ago. Keep in mind most of Israels older generation were considered terrorists by the British, with bombings such as the King David hotel. They evolved into Israel’s leaders. Hamas is the same, they are currently elected leaders.

Another thing to note is,the Palestinians had nothing to do with the Holocaust yet the UN made them surrender half their territory. They have been forced to live in refugee camps, Israel will not allow them to return.

Palestinian rocket attacks have killed 10 Israelis in 13 years, if my information is correct. They are glorified fireworks. Against them Israel deploys fighter jets, Apache helicopters and missiles. The IDF has killed thousands. I wager the Palestinians would gladly swap weapons with Israel.

Israel is a boat anchor for us in the Middle East. Because of them we are hated. They manipulate our politicians-what is AIPAC but an arm of a foreign government.

They have done nothing for us, and express contempt for our leaders. Witness their treatment of Joe Biden recently.

Ah Oso. If we only knew who the good guys and the bad guys were this would be so much easier.

THere’s just something about light skinned guys in business suits who speak english that we want desperately to trust. I think we all like Slobodon Milosevich for a while. I trust nobody in the Middle East anymore.

The fact is he didn’t give that speech and would never be able to give such a speech without threatening dozens of alliances. Israel, despite their occasional transgressions, is an ally. When we start deserting our allies no one will trust us.

I don’t trust our enemies. Palestine is our enemy. Since when are we whining about what happens to our enemy? Have we forgotten Hamas, or the PFL, the PLO, or any number of wanna be killers of Americans. They are terrorists and are devoted to killing all things free and living in the west. Why are we whining about what happens to the enemy?

Anyone who thinks the “love boat” was really that has not done their research. The Palestinians launch rockets at Israel on a regular basis and preach hatred against all things Western, including and particularly the United States.

In point of fact I admire Israel’s restraint. Less reasonable minds would have nuked the enemies of the free world, the Palestinians, and gone about their business. Palestine is not America’s friend. Israel is America’s friend. They may not always act with as much discretion as they should but they make better friends than they do enemies. Remember, the Palestinians are the enemy.

Mike, this is one of those “iffy” topics, for many people. It is kind of like being on opposite sides of the abortion debate or the same sex debate, IMO. Passions just flare and me myself, I try really hard not to get into the I/P conversation, because I have been called vile names when I try to explain myself either way. I just hope that someday we can all just live in a world where all this war and fighting just tires everyone out, everywhere.

I would like to live in that world also Jess, but I don’t see it happening…ever.

I have hope that we will someday, we can’t afford not to. That is what sustains me, most days, the hopes that we will just get over ourselves and make this a better place for all of us. These thoughts brought to you by, crazy Pollyanna talk from inside the mind of J 🙂

Man there would be righty heads up and down the country exploding if he did say something like this. I wish he would say something though. This cannot stand what was done to those people just being humanitarians. I have had to listen for about three days now all the apologists I know with the, well they were attacked. There was a young American woman, had her eye shot out by a tear gas container to the head, in a different protest. Not cool at all.

Holy crap Oso- did you write that? Fantastic!

I can only imagine the collective pants-crapping that would be had if he did give that speech, much as I’d like to hear it.
