Board Says Tea Bagger Favorite Rand Paul Not a Certified Doctor

Read Time:1 Minute, 10 Second

The more we hear about Rand Paul the more we learn.   The latest comes as no surprise, given that Rand Paul is a favorite of one of the most extreme political splinter groups the country has ever seen.  Here is the rest of the story:

Rand Paul, who touts his career as a Kentucky eye doctor as part of his outsider credentials in his campaign for US Senate, isn’t certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, his profession’s leading group. The Louisville Courier-Journal broke the news Sunday, in what Paul calls “a personal assault on my ability to make a living.” Paul told the AP yesterday that he left the group because he objected to its recertification policy, and formed his own rival certification board more than a decade ago.

That board, however, isn’t recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Paul shrugs that off. “Do you think that they’re going to recognize a competitor?” According to the ABO, less than 5% of US ophthamologists aren’t registered with it. “You vilify me and make it sound, ‘Oh, there’s something wrong with him as a physician because he chose not to register,” Paul said, adding that he was certified by the ABO until the late-’90s, but quit in protest because it exempts older ophthalmologists from recertification, which he likened it to members of Congress passing laws that don’t apply to themselves.

Why is his name back to front? Must be an American thing…;-)

This isn’t as bad as the Olbermann’s of the world made it out to be. They made it sound as if the guy was uncertified, as in unqualified. The guy took a pricipled stand and he continues to stand by it. Yes, the civil rights mess that he walked into clearly WAS an issue. This one, I’m really not thinking so. It’s just more piling on, to me.

It just shows how unwilling he is to play by the rules and how he likes to challenge authority. It takes balls, if not brains to stand up to the medical establishment.

He is the gag gift that keeps on giving.

Maybe he would abolish the AMA along with Social Security and Medicare.

Maybe he also wants to start a rival to the American Medical Association also.
