Dr. Laura Schlessinger and the Teachings of Leviticus

Read Time:3 Minute, 21 Second

Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the infamous conserva-Jew, gay-hating radio show host, told her audience that homosexuality is a complete abomination unto the Lord, and cannot be tolerated, all as per Leviticus 18:22. Dr. Kaufmann wrote the following open letter to Dr. Schlessinger. Whether Dr. Laura has responded is unknown.

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God‘s Law. I have
learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as
many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual
lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly
states it to be an abomination … End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of
God’s Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female,
provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine
claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify?
Why can’t I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus
21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of Menstrual uncleanliness – Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I
tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a
pleasing odor for the Lord – Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They
claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2
clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill
him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I
don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a
defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my
vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around
their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How
should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different
crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two
different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse
and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble
of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we
just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people
who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable
expertise in such matters, so I’m confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

Your adoring fan,

James M. Kauffman, Ed.D. Professor Emeritus, Dept. Of Curriculum,
Instruction, and Special Education University of Virginia

Dear Miss P. please take your trolling twaddle elsewhere. This is one of my favorite places, primarily because there are so few followers of Jesus the Jew. You did remember Jesus was a Jew didn’t you? Curious that because your German brethren seemed to have forgotten it. So, let’s get the facts straight:

You buy the myth and us non-believers buy the science. The earth is millions of years old and man didn’t ride dinosaurs. Evolution is a real science not some religious claptrap. The bible was written by ancient desert dwellers who saw storms as representing some sort of deity.

You won’t find many sympathetic ears over here as the readership tends to be on a more intellectual level eschewing the silliness of religion as the opiate of the masses.

Now that bit of cerebral meandering out of the way please know that Jesus didn’t write any books, as he was too busy building houses for the rich and caring for his family. Yes. He had a family. His mama got laid just like you, well, maybe not you, and his daddy no doubt masturbated from time to time as do most men, and probably the Jesus as well.

We don’t want your prayers or exhortations we just want you bible bangers to leave us alone with your hypocritical, twisted nonsense. Now go have yourself a nice day with your bible.

I meant Dr. Kauffman, not Dr. Laura. My bad! :-/

Dr Laura, please don’t try to interpret the Bible. It was written to true believers. Being able to read it in your spoken language is quite different that understanding it’s spiritual meaning and depth.

You can’t do it, so you should just stop the deception. You’re unable to receive the revelation of what God is conveying in His Word because you don’t have the ability to be spiritually discerning.

Give it up doctor…You’ll never get it until you come to the realization that you need a Savior and the only One who can save you is Jesus Christ.

So, did Dr. Kauffman give any credit to the writers of The West Wing?

Bradley Scott

I belive that Jesus, when questioned about a Law in Leviticus, gave credit for it to Moses, not God, and His opinion of it was not favorable. And since Lev. 18:22 is not written in the first person, I can only conclude it is the writer’s opinion of God’s position. On this and a number of other points, I think perhaps the writer spoke out of turn.
As Christ never healed a gay person, I don’t believe He views homosexuality as a sickness. Since He never forgave anyone for being gay, He must not think it’s a sin. He never exorcised any demons that were making people same-sex oriented, so apparently it’s not ‘Da Debbil.’
If you’re still questioning where The Almighty comes down on this, and many other questions, ask Him. It’s like chicken soup, right? Couldn’t hurt!

Please help me support a new painting and a new series of paintings titled Postmodern Revelation. The painting I am working on is titled Leviticus 18:22 Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. It is a testament to my understanding that Leviticus 18:22 is something that Jesus would not have wanted.

Please help spread the word.

There are many ways to mock and defame those people who believe in God and the Bible. One very common way is such a kind of in which people mix up all commands of the Old Covenant to the New Covenant. In this writing, I bring forth that how mockers distort, take things out of the context and mix up order of the Old and New Covenant.

Dr. Laura Schlesinger said on her radio show 2004 that she as an observant Orthodox Jew thinks that homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. Someone posted on the Internet an open letter to Dr. Laura.

In this writing, I’m going to deal with arguments of an open letter. My answers are according to the order of the New Covenant, and I rectify few misunderstandings and misrepresented things.

Answers and the whole article is here: http://koti.phnet.fi/petripaavola/answeringtomockersoftheBible.html

According to the CBSC she has used words like ‘abnormal,’ ‘aberrant,’ ‘deviant,’ ‘disordered,’ ‘dysfunctional,’ and ‘an error’, but she NEVER said ‘abomination’! Well, that makes me feel so much better!

Leviticus is an Old Testament book. It was a law book for the Jews before Christ came into the world. He came to fulfill the law. He abolished it. Not one person alive could live exactly how it said. That’s why the Israelites had to make sacrifices so often. Chrsit came into the world to be the ultimate sacrifice. We are not required to live that as the law describes, because quite frankly, we cannot. Amen, thank you Lord for taking my place and everyone else’s on the cross. The cross that we rightfully deserve to suffer through. Amen.

Sean – Most evangelicals believe in the WHOLE Bible literally. You attempt to excuse the nonsense in the Old Testament with Christ’s sacrifice.
But, the New Testatment has lots of idiotic stuff too… Just read Revelation, for instance!

Evangelicals should believe in the whole Bible. It’s inerrant. But the law in the OT was Jewish law. A person can never follow it perfectly, and thus cannot come to Christ through it. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, though, a person is saved through faith in Him, not through adherring to rules. What is idiotic to you about Revelation?

In typical Christian fashion you have twisted the truth. I wrote Revelations, not “Revalations” and I know what the book is called I just prefer to pluralize it as it reads like a number of fantastical revelations had by a guy named John.

Just because the law was fulfilled through Christ, it doesn’t mean SIN is not SIN. Homosexuality is still SIN. It says so in the New Testament as well. Just read it. Romans Chapter 1:26-27 & 1 Corinthians 6:9

If I want to read something educational it would more likely be Rolling Stone or The New York Times. Their stories speak to the real happenings of the world, not the inane ramblings of a collection of desert dwellers.

Snopes has done a whole page on the “leveticus Letter” and Dr Laura. It says that she referred to gays as “mistakes of nature”. http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/drlaura.asp
Don’t believe Snopes?

Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) ruled that her “consistent characterization of the sexual behavior of gays and lesbians as ‘abnormal,’ ‘aberrant,’ ‘deviant,’ ‘disordered,’ ‘dysfunctional,’ and ‘an error’ ” constituted abusive discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and as such, were in violation of the human rights provision of its Code of Ethics.

The CBSC found similar fault with her generalized statements that pedophilia is more prevalent among members of the gay community.

Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance (something unfamiliar to Conservatives) has a list of Dr Laura quotes that support the widely held opinion that regardless if she is polite to an individual gay caller, her overall opinion of gay people is negative. http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_0078.htm

Setting My Record Straight About Gays
June 22, 2010 on 12:00 pm | In Acceptance, Character, Homosexuality, Leviticus, PFLAG, Values Email This Post Email This Post

My blog today has to do with teaching you how to respond to lies. Most importantly, lies about me. At 63 years of age (okay, 63 and a half), I am absolutely blown away by the casual meanness and vulgarity that passes for opinion and discourse. In my early years, if you wrote or verbally gave an argument that had even a tinge of nastiness (forget the vulgarity), both you and your point of view would be flushed…intellectually disqualified. Nowadays though, people feel frighteningly free to criticize with vulgarities, insults, lies, exaggerations, misrepresentations, character assassination and downright ferocious meanness.

Nothing new here. I’ve been commenting on this for a while, but last night a friend approached me…a friend approached me and asked me how he should handle a particular situation. (I thought I was getting into “Dr. Laura gear”). Somebody had contacted him and challenged him about being my friend because, (and to quote that person) “she hates gays”. For almost a dozen years (I think they’re automatically renewed computer-wise daily…you’ve probably seen it or heard about it), a blog appears under different sources, ostensibly asking me to answer questions about some of the Bible’s entries about slavery, daughters…so forth. It supposes that I ever quoted Leviticus that homosexuality is an abomination. That never happened. I repeat: that never happened. I never said that. I don’t believe that.

In fact (which they will deny…don’t you love activism?) I was one of the earliest radio hosts to support organizations such as PFLAG (you know, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and other efforts to encourage openness and acceptance of gays in their own families, much less society. But to my surprise (but not naivetë), to many activists, truth is irrelevant when the intent is to rally support through raising passions, especially negative passions. Get people angry and they stop thinking for themselves.

Here’s the truth: I’m for marriage as a bond between a man and a woman. I’m for children having the benefit of a married mommy and daddy, which by the way also means that you straight women should not intentionally exclude a daddy from your kid’s lives just because you want to be a mommy. But most importantly, you listen every day, you hear I take calls almost daily from gay men and women asking my advice on personal and family matters. These are the people who know the truth about me because, you know what, they actually listen to my daily radio program. They call because they know I can and will help. And every week I receive letters from listeners and fans who are gay and thank me when I take a call or read a letter from another gay listener, and here’s what they think, in their own words (let me get this ready…okay):

“Thank you for reading the email from the gay gentleman. I’m a gay woman (I don’t like the word ‘lesbian’) [she writes] and listen to you faithfully. I applaud you for protecting children and keeping people on the right path. I echo the feelings of the gay man who emailed you today. I am and have been single for 10 years. I just wanted to let you know how much I agree with you on how to make relationships work. I only wish I had found you before my partner left. If I had, I don’t think she would have ended the relationship. I hope more people in gay relationships will listen to you.”

Here’s another one:

“I just heard you read the email over the air from the faithful gay listener. Add me to the column! I’m a gay male in central Virginia who listens to you every day after I get home from work. I’ve been listening regularly for the past three years and I wouldn’t miss it. Gay or straight…white, black, green, purple, or blue…Momma Laura knows how to knock some sense into people’s heads.”

[Laughs] And, something I saved…something I saved. Here’s a call I got recently from a gay listener [listen to the audio here]

Caller: Thank you Dr. Laura.

Dr. L: Thank you.

Caller: I have to say, right off the bat that I need to apologize to you publicly because I wrote you a nasty-gram under the impression that you were against gay people. And I know better now, so I deeply apologize for that.

Dr. L: Thank you. How kind of you and thank you very much, and I accept your apology.

Caller: Thank you.

In fact, I get (brace yourself) disappointed and angry emails each week from people upset that I help gay callers. I give advice to gays and lesbians who call my show. One radio station dropped me because I give advice to gays and lesbians. Quite openly, I have been personally very hurt over the years with the misrepresentation which has led to a generation of folks who haven’t read my books, haven’t attended a “one-woman show”, haven’t listened to my radio show, yet presumed to know me and what I stand for. Having people believe that I’m a bigot and hate me…and “hate” is the word…is horrible, frustrating, demoralizing and unbelievably painful.

So my answer to my friend who wanted to know what he should say to people who challenge him being my friend, is to tell those people to listen to my show. I am happy to have any and all draw their own conclusions about me from an informed position, for a change, by listening to my program for a month or two. So there is a lesson in all of this: don’t let anybody tell you how to feel about another person without exploring the situation yourself and don’t waste hate. Save hate for those who…like the Taliban, hang to their necks until dead seven year old children in order to scare a village and take control. That’s where hate ought to go.

Isn’t this Leviticus the same clown who said something about man having dominion over the creatures of the earth? Another little diddy…Laura’s son who turned out (well adjusted) had a bit of a problem in the Military. Seems he got in a some trouble when he posted somewhere the following:

Cartoon images of rape, murder, torture, and child molestation.
Seems all her work on Psychology paid off.
And this twit is giving advice to the poor schmucks (Jewish Term) with no where to turn.

Dr Laura has a degree in physiology, with her masters thesis relating to insulin transport in the fat cells of rats. She came from a dysfunctional family, herself divorced. She later broke up the marraige of a USC professor, with whom she “lived in sin” unmarried for 9 years. Estranged from her mother, she didn’t speak to her for some 20 years- the old woman died alone and her body was undiscovered for 2 months.

The DR in Dr Laura must stand for “Douchebag Regina” as only a queen bitch such as herself would ever presume to give advise to others when her own life is such a perfect exemplar of dysfunctionality. No actual psychological or counseling background whatsoever.

I’ve run across that before and it’s still funny.
I always thought her boy who she raised from a pup, would turn out loving Judy Garland. Well at least I was hoping for that. It would be justice for all her disparaging remarks. The poor kid already is living a hell having being raised by her.
Geeez he must be 50 about now. Yeah that’s about right, she’s about 112.
