Helpful information. Lucky me I discovered your web site by accident, and I’m stunned why this coincidence did not took place earlier!
I bookmarked it.

Despite the devastation of BP’s cock up…let’s move on (unless you’re a fisherman in the wrong place or, possibly, a fish or sea bird or crab in the wrong place.

BP should suffer – but almost certainly won’t.

…and the poor, sad old world turns…

I wonder how I became such a cynical old bastard?

Just another fun fact, BP was Obama’s largest contributor.
Ramh stayed at a apartment in DC rent free for over three years.
The apartment was owned by a PR guy from BP.
Three guys formed a PR firm and do the new slogans for BP a few years back. The ones that tried to put BP in a new light. Friendly. It was called Beyond Petroleum. One of the three is James Carville. Some say the Ramh connection is what slowed the process. I wish Rachael would look into this.

That isn’t good…. I don’t really buy that President Obama is in ‘bed’ with BP…
He has a great deal on his plate right now. He’s doing a far better job than even Clinton would have done with all of this. (excepting showing the emoting)… I don’t ever think of him as a ‘sell out’… I think him making bad compromises with the wrong attitude.
And I think he’s getting a huge object lesson right now, too.
F**K Rahm! He needs a reality check. Or to work for the Republicans.

I try to keep it more , umm, balanced over here at Mike’s. No ranting. Let Rachel do it with the facts. LOL Really, everyone has a valid point. But this I’ll say;
edge of a paradigm shift is at nearly at hand. Not just because of USA troubles, either. You know Kit?

Bravo for Rachel Maddow, as usual. And BP, they have all the hallmarks of sociopaths and cannot and should not be trusted.

Great posting on this subject, Gwen. I like that you keep doing this. Then again, how can we not?

Mark my words, as I am going on the record as posting it right now.

BP will not be paying for all of the damages. In fact, I will be surprised if they wind up paying 10 percent of what damages they have caused. Not including the damages that cannot have a monetary value.

Their asset values will quickly be overtaken by this cleanup liability, so they will start dumping shares, then put the whole thing into bankruptcy protection and court restructure.

Claims that are not quickly paid before will be waiting 20 to 25 years before they see 10 cents to the dollar.

I stated in a post about a month and a half ago that the US assets should have been seized. It now is probably too late.

Good analysis. I agree completely.

Here is another “nerdy engineer” analysis…

The offshore oil drillers will join to form a joint consortium that will hire several large Madison Avenue PR firms along with several well paid political candidates to minimize the leak exposure and rewrite the history of what happened.

Eventually the leak will get stopped. What exactly happened is going to be “well paid for” re-write.

What was BP back then only did the overthrow request. The CIA, with the go ahead by Eisenhower, were the actual operatives on Operation Ajax back in 1953.

The success of that operation was used as the model for a lot of Central America havoc in latter years.

Right, BP played the “Chiquita Banana” role in Iran. Commies everywhere, now it’s terrorists.

We could add their part in the overthrow of Iran’s democracy back in 1953. Imagine the positive influence a thriving democracy for over 50 years would have exerted on the area? Yet the greedy bastards wouldn’t yield a dime of profits to Iran. Long record of malevolence coming from them.

Gwen, Yeah BP is nothing but a bunch of lying, greedy bastards.
On another note, somebody approved the permits. Some asshole who didn’t even read the papers cause they are somebody. Some jerk who is still collecting wages paid by us who should have been fired. MMS has been corrupt for years now. Cowboy Ken Salazar was supposed to fix it. This is the group of people who have been literally in bed with Big Oil. The woman in charge has recently stepped down. Big Shit! Yeah like she was the only one, right. Obama puts Salazar as the sheriff to clean up Dodge.
Black Bart (BP) thrived instead of packing.
