Chevron Oil Spill Devastates Salt Lake City Park

Read Time:1 Minute, 6 Second

Salt Lake City, Utah, has its own oil spill and while not on the scale of the Gulf of Mexico gusher, Gov. Gary Herbert calls it “devastating.” He says the state Division of Water Quality is assessing damage and will issue a violation notice against Chevron.

At least 400 to 500 barrels of oil spewed into a creek coating about 150 geese, about 75 of them being Canadian Geese, and ducks.  The spill forced the closing of a popular Salt Lake City park. A number of the birds have already died. Chevron determined the pipeline broke Friday evening, but it wasn’t shut off until Saturday morning.

The underground pipeline flows to Salt Lake City from Colorado and feeds the city’s oil and gas refineries. Chevron takes full responsibility and, like BP, promises to clean everything up.  That promise won’t do a lot for the dozens of birds killed immediately and the long lasting environmental damage that will kill wildlife for years and years to come.

At that spill is only 400 – 500 barrels. Imagine if it was MILLIONS, like in the gulf.

Damn, they are just poking more holes into the earth and not worrying about the consequences. How long do we keep doing this over and over again before we go, oh wait this might just be an accident waiting to happen. We really need to get off the big oil teat and in a major way before we just go way too far. How many of the drill baby drillers, will be on the idiot box tomorrow saying this is just another unfortunate accident? I wonder if the rubes will finally come to the realization this is a bad thing, and we need to get on to getting off fossil fuels. More habitats probably ruined for those geese, who were just going about their business.

Please tell me Chevron has bugger all to do with the Brits!!!

Odd really. I see bits of people blown up in Iraq and I shrug, I see animals and wildlife killed by human cock ups and I cry.

We can help doing it to ourselves and each other. They can’t.
