Tar Balls Hit Pensacola Beaches – Florida Panhandle Under Threat

Tar balls and oil have finally invaded Northwest Florida’s pristine coastline, turning Pensacola and Navarre beaches into a spectacle of media frenzy and locals’ “last swim” trips to the beach.
As national attention zeroes in on our shores, Escambia County is clamping down on Santa Rosa Island Authority’s availability to media.
W.A. Buck Lee, executive director of SRIA, will give a final interview at 4 p.m. on “Hardball with Chris Matthews” on MSNBC. After that, all media requests must go through Sonya Daniel, public information officer at Escambia County.
It’s a satellite truck city at Casino Beach this afternoon, with crews from ABC, NBC, CNN, Weather Channel and numerous others.
The beach is packed with locals wanting to get in what they call a “last swim” or “last surf” or just to see the oil. Many are taking bits of oil as souvenirs or mementos.
People at the beach are advised NOT to touch them.
BP is sending 11 cleanup crews to Pensacola and Perdido Key beaches, Bob West, Pensacola Beach public safety director said this morning.
West said there is no advisory keeping people out of the water. He said the county Health Department would issue an advisory on swimming in the Gulf if a significant amount of oil approaches. The Escambia County commission would make it illegal to enter the water.
West said the bigger dangers today and throughout the weekend are the surf and riptides. He said several rescues were made this morning.

OMG, get out of my head MH, it is enough I have to be in there, you don’t. I just do not like being told, because I am young, I can have no opinions about anything. The worst is “when you are just so young and pretty, you shouldn’t be worrying your pretty little head over things”. You know, let the adults do it. I know what I am trying to say with this next statement, but it may come off as a little odd. If you are somewhat attractive, there are a lot of people, male and female, that disregard anything else about you. They forget there may be brains there too, it isn’t all airheadedness there if you know what I mean.

God, this is horrible. I saw pictures of oil covered wildlife on HP today. It is truly heart braking.
I can’t handle those pictures. I just can’t handle them, and of course the MSM is showing them every three minutes.
Turn off the idiot box Mike or watch old movies on TMC. I finally had to because of just what you are saying. I’m going to have to stay away from any oil talk for a few. I really can’t take it anymore.
