The More Things Change the More They Stay the Same

Read Time:22 Second

This song was written by Bruce Cockburn in 1984, during the Reagan years, while visiting a Guatemalan refugee camp in Mexico that was attacked by Guatemalan military helicopters.

His political activism continues to the present.

Listen to the lyrics and tell me this couldn’t have been written today.

I dedicate this song to BP and it’s ongoing media PR campaign.

Don’t really need to say anything more…..

Here is another one could have been written today. I have been having fun going through my dad’s old vinyls and music and have just latched onto this particular album for right now. I won’t give up the surprise who sings it here,in my post, but it is an ecology type video I love.

I have been playing this on the old turntable I found in the attic. This album is just great. Onto iTunes to get it properly on the iPod for me. I have to find one of those things you can convert music from one media to another in my free time.
I swear that is how it is labeled on the boxes in the attic I have been going through, belonging to the ancients** that used to live here. Back in the olden days of like, ancient times, before the 80s I think it would be considered ancient 😉 (Jess ducks and runs from all the old people waving their canes around). If we go by this particualr song that would be the 70s or older maybe. They did this magical thing of laying songs on old plastic, yeah for the environment, that you could bring home, scratch it up playing and playing. Ah hell, before I get in more trouble, or told to get off a lawn somewhere, here is the WIKI short story on it.

Jess, I am one of the “old school, get off my lawn” types when it comes to audio equipment. In fact, I haven’t owned a solid state amplifier for about 25 years.

All of my stuff is Vacuum tube..from the most excellent English made “Michealson and Austin” pentode to my latest Jolida 300B single ended triode putting out a total of 9watts.

By the way, England made by far (excluding the Westinghouse 300B) the very best vacuum tubes known to mankind. And if 4D were to…

somehow know what I am talking about AND

somehow procure a matched pair of Mullard 12AX7 Tubes circa 1962 made in Blackburn.

He could email me and basically name his price.

All I saw here were the suqiggly dream lines from Wayne’s world and I went into like a deep sleep. I have zero idea about any of that. I just know, I have stuff in that attic that is probably older than dirt and I still haven’t gotten to the back half of it. I did pull some old Klipsch speakers from there. Same kind that they used to use in the theater with the horn, speakery thingy(this is the technical term doncha know) and sold them a while back for, well a nice bit of coin. I had no idea what they heck they were, other than big old ugly speakers IMO. Here the beasts are right here in the link. I had 5 of them, why? he was a hoarder, and I got rid of three of them. His were from older days though, and from all I could gather they are still making them the exact same way. I want my stuff small and minimal, to go with my decor, not the big bulky looks like a museum house the ‘rents had. Hubby LOVES the ones I kept though, they are with his ugly chair in his man cave.

Jess……I AM having heart palpitations here….do you mean to tell me that you had a pair of Klipschorns??? A pair of @#%@# Klipschorns!! Did Mother Hen front you some information here and you are just teasing me right? You are kidding me right?? You had 5 of them?? You are just bullshitting me right??

Nope, not teasing at all. I didn’t have them, my dad did. I got rid of 3 of them and kept two of them for my other half. Why am I imagining you doing the same jumping up and down hubby did, when he realized we had those up there? Are they magical or something? They are an eyesore in my opinion, but then I know zero about all this stuff.

Okay, I have just checked with MH and there wasn’t any collusion here. I am done for the day.

I cannot function any longer. I am just going to go get some liquor and go to some corner of the room to curl up in a fetal position.

Oh and Ebay did have more stuff. I don’t know if this is what you are looking for but I am a shopping queen on the tooby things, so I will keep an eye out for them for you. Wait, won’t MH get on your butt for this? If so, then I will just keep looking, so she can blame you for corrupting innocent me 🙂

When Krell and I met, probably when you were about 4, he would go on and on about his audiophiliac wet dreams involving Klipsch horn speakers. Those huge ugly ass man-cave worthy things that I would have to sacrifice two whole corners of the greatroom for are Krell’s “Holy Grail”. Every yard sale, every swap meet, every flea market he fantasizes about finding a pair of them for a price that wouldn’t shock me bald.

Last I checked this post there was only the Marvin Gaye link. Now I find Krell whimpering about “She had five…FIVE…five in the attic…!” a shaky finger points at the link to the speakers on-screen. I have no doubt if you still had a pair he would hitchhike all the way to California or blow every bum in the truck stop to get there.

For the love of all that is holy PLEASE don’t tell him you gave them away, or left them at the curb… We don’t have psychiatric inpatient care on our insurance.

BTW Krell says that depending on what year they were, those speakers could be worth @ 50k.

Nope, sold 3 of them off with some other things I will not mention, since it was guy stuff(cars/man stuff) and would send him into such a fit, I don’t know he would be of any use to you ever again:) Hubby has a pair still in his man cave, with his ugly chair and that is only because he was crying, I mean crying like a small child, when I told him I wanted to get rid of all of them. If we ever get rid of these, Krell will be the very first person I offer them up to and at way less than I got for the other 3. I didn’t mean for him to go all verklempt about it. I had ZERO idea what these things were and I just told my own hubby hey did you know. He goes, see all men want these it’s not just me. Something about blabbity blabbity and music and I have no idea, I tuned him out.

Well I don’t know how much you guys want to spend but I just went on Ebay and there is a guy selling a pair for 1700 it looks like for both. You could make him sell his body for the money if that is too much for you 🙂

Hey me too. I have been harassing BB’s staff for days about the animals and how I feel they are not doing enough. My rep Eschoo, her staffers probably see my number and go oh shit, it is Jess again. Try and get her off the phone quickly please. Fos some reason, didn’t know I was logged on.
