Neocon Jerk Frum Makes a Good Point

Read Time:2 Minute, 0 Second

I don’t like David Frum. I don’t like his contribution to the pre-invasion propaganda against Iraq. I don’t like how his sneering conservatism of the privileged has sullied the memory of his late mama, who was respected for her integrity and reason. I don’t like his lack of compassion for the less fortunate. I just don’t like him.

My dislike for the Canadian Yankee neocon isn’t the slightest bit mitigated by his recent break with some other U.S. conservatives. As Shania Twain would say, that don’t impress me much. I just don’t like the guy. Is that clear?

But I do like his column today in The Week, “Shirley Sherrod and the shame of the conservative media.”

Journos and pundits on the right have acknowledged that Sherrod was defamed by Andrew Breitbart’s website. But they’re letting Breitbart get off scot-free.

Take it away, Davey:

“There will be no apology or statement of regret for distributing a doctored tape to defame and destroy someone. There will be not even a flutter of interest among conservatives in discussing Breitbart’s role. By the morning of July 21, the Fox & Friends morning show could devote a segment to the Sherrod case without so much as a mention of Breitbart’s role. The central fact of the Sherrod story has been edited out of the conservative narrative, just as it was edited out of the tape itself.

“When people talk of the “closing of the conservative mind” this is what they mean: not that conservatives are more narrow-minded than other people — everybody can be narrow minded — but that conservatives have a unique capacity to ignore unwelcome fact.

“When Dan Rather succumbed to the forged Bush war record hoax in 2004, CBS forced him into retirement. Breitbart is the conservative Dan Rather [Stimpson’s note: Well not exactly; Rather had established himself as a true journalist], but there will be no discredit, no resignation for him.

“Instead, conservatives are consumed with a new snippets-out-of-context uproar, the latest round of JournoList quotations. Here at last is proof of the cynical machinations of the hated liberal media! As to the cynical machinations of conservative media — well, as the saying goes, the fish never notices the water through which it swims.”

No, I don’t like Frum. I don’t like him at all. But on the Sherrod story, he nailed it.

Bill Kristol, Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott, Jeffrey Beauregard Session the turd????? WHO????

I’m in a little world of my own here aren’t I?

I will now retire beneath my quilt and consider how any people could have had such evil parents as to saddle them with such bizarre names.

Thank you for the explanations of neocon.

I’m uncertain that I’m any the wiser but fairly certain I don’t want to be…;-)

Bill Kristol is a big conservative mucky muck here in America. Newt is a perpetual candidate for president and Jeffrey Beauregard the turd(the third) is a smarmy little racist, shit that since he couldn’t get on the Supreme Court here, he dogs all the other candidates but only if they are Democrats. He is a chickenhawk that loves war and blowing things up, but helping the “little person” nope won’t do it.

You’re not in a little world of your own, just in England where I am guessing you may not be really concerned about our politicos here. Hey you can always be wiser. If you learn one new thing a day it beats the alternative of being dead right? Good night and don’t waste your sleep thoughts on that, waste them on Victoria Beckham like in your Scientology post 🙂 Just don’t let Mrs 4d know, or there could be trouble.

Good for Shrum, perhaps his mama has been entering his dreams and giving the mama talk.

This truth in marketing thing, is a disturbing trend that is going around in Neo-cunt circles right now, I have noticed it in other media as well. They are telling the truth. I think this is a way to woo Repuglickers back to the party for the elections.

Breitbart is the one needs to do that, but he is on spin mode today. The farmer’s wife may be a plant and now it is the WH and NAACP who are the wrongdoers in this scenario. How do the other media outlets let them get away with this. It is rhetorical so no need for an answer.

Just what is a neocon? Sounds like a cross between that sci fi movie…wassit called…The Matrix and our own Call me Dave.

What does neocon mean?

Neoconservatives subscribe to free-market economic philosophy akin to Milton Friedman’s. In foreign policy, they seek to export U.S. values to all points of the globe. The invasion of Iraq, for instance, was touted by neocons as an opportunity to make Iraqis more like Americans.

See if I can maybe explain what my perception is of a neo con. It is basically a republican who thinks that the mighty America can do no wrong and we need to go into other countries to bring them their freedoms. I’ll give you a few names and you will know maybe what it is. Bill Kristol, Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott, Jeffrey Beauregard Session the turd. People like that that think it is our right to do as we please to bring peace and freedom, usually at the barrel of a gun. I could be wrong with my description but I don’t think so. I am willing to be corrected though.

Basically that’s correct, Jess. I see we were answering 4D’s query at about the same time.

You just used better words and were more adult about what neocons are.

Being mature so not my usual modus operandi. I’m not myself today, I guess.

I’ve been sitting on a righty site this morning and have leaned very juvenile in my behavior over there. I sometimes forget there are adults, can have sensible conversations and disagree without being all petty.

Neoconservatism grew out of a perception of ineptitude of liberalism and social democracy of the 6o’s

They feel that an active role must be taken using the economic and military might of the US to change the rest of the world into what they considered right and moral. Several problems with that.

Used to be called Imperalism. Same shit, different name.

This is just their latest poutrage of the day story. I guess Sherrod has mentioned Fox has been trying to get her to do an interview and she said why, they do this all the time. Why should I go there, they got what they wanted out of this. Basically what they wanted is us black people to be less than to paraphrase her. Here is the article I was reading earlier on Media Matters.
