Yankees Owner Steinbrenner Dead

Read Time:48 Second

An initially unconfirmed account, later confirmed, by a caller to the Opie and Anthony morning show on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio that George Steinbrenner had died, quickly set off another internet celebrity death rumor, however the often-controversial executive has indeed suffered a “massive heart attack” at his home in Florida, according to reports now coming in from official news sources including WABC-NY.

Steinbrenner, the outspoken and revered owner of the New York Yankees, has long been suspected of being in failing health. He has not been a part of the day to day operations of the ballclub for many years, having handed over the reins to his sons Hank and Hal Steinbrenner.

As owner, George Steinbrenner, who turned 80 earlier this month, led the Yankees to seven World Series victories, and recently released a statement regarding the passing of legendary Yankees announcer Bob Sheppard just the other day.

A MadMikesAmerica source has confirmed that George Steinbrenner has indeed died.

@Mad Mike,
honestly, I’ve been too broken up to post anything. I’ve always alternated between hating aned loving the guy since I was about five years old. My uncles used to complain about Steinbrenner like he was the weather. Better still, a good friend Bruce Spiegler (a Mets fan) still refers to the Yankees as “The New York Steinbrenners.”
All told, George’s bringing in-and chasing of Reggie out of New York; his criminal harrassment of Dave Winfield; his conviction of collusion and all his various mistakes, prideful errors and megalomania aside, nobody loved, bled and shelled out for their team more. He was the biggest Yankee fan I’ve ever heard of.
There were times when I went to games that I had the sickening feeling that the stadium was in fact his house, but again, he was a bigger fan than I was.
With all that said, with all his talk of moving the Yankees out of the Bronx, he brought (and bought) the team I loved, the team that was the only thing good about the South Bronx in the 1970s back to form.
Rest in peace, boss.
Mr. Sheppard is already there waiting, -wondering what’s taking you so long.
