Compassion

Read Time:3 Minute, 39 Second

Much abused word is compassion.

Much abused by politicians for starters.

“I feel so much compassion for the starving children of Pakistan/Somalia/ Ethiopia” – delete as applicable – states any politician you would care to name along with God knows how many bimbo airheads cloned with Paris Hilton.

They – the politicians, the powerful, the obscenely wealthy, the blond bimbo airhead heiresses – wouldn’t know compassion if the word fell on their selfish, brainless heads.

There are exceptions of course. There always will be.

Bill Gates, for example, is obscenely rich but he gives mega money to various charitable organisations.

I’m sure there are any number of peeps who would slag off Bill Gates ’cause he’s super rich – well actually he’s super super super rich – but, credit where it’s due. He gives. Substantial amounts actually.

We should understand that some filthy rich people have got filthy rich through their own honest endeavours and inginuity. Gates being a case in point.

Sadly, he is very much the exception.

Former British Prime Minister ‘Call Me’ Tony Blair – preferably spelt (B)LIAR – is ridiculously rich.

The let’s get elected as Prime Minister, totally fuck up the country, lie, cheat and be the ultimate slimeball kind of rich person is the kind who wouldn’t know compassion if it hit him between the eyes.

Compassion is, increasingly, the ‘watchword’ of the poor benighted creatures who slog along day in day out to make ends meet yet still find a couple of quid / dollars to give to some deserving cause.

Compassion is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Many believe they have compassion because they cry whenever some starving African kid pops up on TV.

The fact they forget all about it by breakfast the following morning is immaterial…’I am compassionate’ they believe.

I’m compassionate. Really. I am.

I have compassion for anyone who is having a hard time whether financially or for some other reason.

Generally I can do fuck all about it but at least I feel compassionate about their situation.

I felt ‘compassionate’ about a muslim girl who was being beaten up by several muslim men – I have no idea why…she tried to explain after I had accosted them, given three a good kicking and got a punch in the mouth for my trouble.

As her English was unintelligible I have no idea what it was all about.

I was quite proud that all six ran off after Dinners gave one a swift kick in the happy sacks.

How does ‘compassion’ equate with violence?

No idea.

The pic I used on an earlier post – below – provoked the question ‘What is that on your face?’

Blood my friends.

My compassion for an innocent(?) female, dressed in a large black bedouin tent who shouldn’t even be in this country who was getting ‘hammered’ by several (6) of her fellow muslims….

One of my current driving students is Ukranian. In an earlier guise of a union rep I fought, and won, against a hostile management to ensure he was fully paid whilst he took time off to bury his son – who had died under unusual circumstances to say the least – back in the Ukraine. The management attitude was ‘he’s not here he doesn’t get paid’. No compassion there then eh?

My compassion for animals knows no bounds.

I have given thousands of pounds I could ill afford towards helping animals from dogs to donkeys and from cats to giraffes.

I have donated to various charities – mainly animal as I couldn’t actually give a toss if half of Africa dies…the human lot anyroad.

That’s just me. Give me an Elephant in trouble and I’m your man. Give me some little African kid with a million flies around his eyes and I go for another voddy.

Compassion without compassion?

I have compassion, but it’s selective.

Never mind.

At least mine is real unlike Tony Bliar and pretty much every politician who’s ever lived – not to mention the Paris Hilton airheads.

I may not be much but, unlike those tossers I am human.

I do suffer from having a much abused word. Compassion.

Selective compassion but real all the same.

Welcome to the human race….and no, I’m no fan of Prince but as he’s got a song called ‘Compassion’ I suppose I’ll put up with the little prick.

I recall somewhere that Richard Branson is another one of the good guys, but I’ not sure. “Selective compassion?” Brilliant post, fourdinners. There’s always a brief celeb “Cause de Jour,” forgotten when the next disaster hits. Compassion and empathy are terms used for Haiti for a few weeks, then we move on to the rapes of 2.5 million women in the Congo to “help” a bit. The aid to Congelese women is laudable… don’t fet me wrong. I just hope the “philanthropists” don’t move on again dismissing the problems in the Congo as no longer relevant. I hear nothing about the rapes and murders of countless women in Jaurez who work 16-hour days for American multi-nationals and receive no protection or transportation. My compassion is overshadowed by my sadness that I cannot help others.

Warren Buffet, The Oracle of Omaha, is another super-rich good guy, along the lines of Gates.

Well, shit–that explains it. It wasn’t just peanut butter and jelly.

I’d say, you did the right thing.

Maybe we need to stop and take a breath or three…

All the love in the world babe. Just keep taking the breath.

Now that’s compassion.

That’s what counts.

Mabye it’s empathy is the better word than compassion is. We’ve all heard the compassionate conservative line which was a total lie but there it is. Empathy puts you in a place to relate on a higher level to that other person. I think that is what we are missing in society these days. OMU, I am totally channeling my mother right here, this is some scary stuff, since she did warn me about turning into her.

Not for nothing, I would be so happy for you to have my back in any kind of situation, I wish they were not as violent though, for your sake. It’s a good person that stands up when others won’t even to the point of pain. You’re a good man and I am so glad to know you, just the little bit I know you.

Oh and animal compassion, have that in spades, like you do, like most of us here do. Our household got an addition to it, like MH and Krell a few weeks ago. A tiny little teacup something or another with chihuahua in it. I found it wandering and took it in so it would be safe. Put up flyers and stuff, so if no one claims her by end of week, we are keeping her. My husband loves her, my cats are loving her because she is smaller than all of them. Took her to the Petsmart vet yesterday because ours is closed on the weekend and they gave her a clean bill of health.

Thank you for your honesty and for your compassion although selective like mine and most everyone else if they told the truth!
