Gulf seafood tested “Immaculate” after oil spill
In a rare spot of good news, an analysis of seafood from the Gulf of Mexico came black clean of oil or chemical dispersants—in one word, “immaculate.” The Daily Beast commissioned a lab to test shrimp, lump crabmeat, and red grouper and found that all three, like the control samples sourced from the Atlantic Ocean, had undetectable or extremely minute amounts of contamination.
Unfortunately for the fishing industry, it is likely going to take many more studies like this one to convince buyers that Gulf seafood is safe. A recent AP poll shows that 54% of Americans don’t believe Gulf seafood is safe to eat. “Normally, at this time, the buyers are hunting me down and this year it seems like I’m working on securing buyers,” says one third-generation shrimper.

I hope that it is safe to eat, but would I eat it? NO!
I would eat it! Millions of people are eating it as we speak. It’s the eggs that are making people sick not the seafood 🙂
Any agency, government or non, had better be right about the safety of Gulf seafood, and if it is safe to eat, great, if folks start getting sick, fishing in the Gulf will be a thing of the past.
I desperately want to believe, for the sake of recovery, and the fishermen and their families, that the fish are safe.
But the government (and just because we have a Democrat in office means nothing) will say anything. They claim all sorts of other stuff is “safe” too, but that doesn’t mean I am eating it.
Crap.
Tell ya what Mike, later this evening I’m interviewing a lady whose family is in the shrimp business in Gulfport MS. She’s the one who stood up to the Gov. putting this kind of bunk out and segregating “experts” from BP (who are saying this)… did you know they are making the fishermen sign wavers of release to sell so they are held accountable if anyone gets sick and sues? Her name is Linda St. Martin and since last week she’s been on several shows and local write ups … she stood up the Gov. and made a case for the fishing families and conservation… which is being ignored. Check it out, if you don’t believer her call in and ask her about it.
Gwen I’m going to trust the dozens of government and independent agencies that have determined that the seafood is safe. I would think that this would be good news for those who make their living on the waters of the Gulf. Thanks anyway 🙂
Just like they have declared that 75% of the oil is gone, eh?
I believe that it is gone. It has to be gone sooner or later. Why not sooner? Why all the distrust of the government? Are they lying to us all the time about everything? Is the egg recall really a huge government plot? Where does this end? I prefer to take an optimistic as opposed to a pessimistic view. It is healthier. There is plenty of time for the sky to fall….:-) 🙂
