States battle their own “Ground Zero” mosques

Read Time:57 Second

You basically can’t escape news of the backlash over the planned mosque at Ground Zero these days—but definitely don’t try to escape it by vacationing in Tennessee. That state, like many others across the country, is fighting its own mosque-themed battle. The Washington Post looks at a Muslim community outside Nashville that has worshiped there, quietly and without issue, for nearly 30 years. But a proposed 52,900-square-foot Islamic center has been met with a noisy town protest, complete with “Keep Tennessee Terror Free” signs.

These sentiments are popping up from California to Florida, notes the Post, shining a light on what seems to be a definite, and very recent, shift in attitude toward Muslims. The engineering professor overseeing the Tennessee mosque’s planned expansion tells of the kindness of locals after 9/11, some of whom specifically approached him and his wife to tell them they had nothing to fear. Today, people give him the finger. “It’s tough to see that change,” he says.

>>>Consequently, Islam should be reclassified from ‘RELIGION’ to ‘PUBLIC MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM’ – a virulent contagious mental illness. It could then be contained by the methods used to prevent the spread of typhoid and other lethal epidemics: enforced exclusion and quarantine of carriers, eradication of foci of infection, immunization of the susceptible population etc<<<

So you going to be doing this with all religions, or just the ones you don't agree with because they are different than yours. I won't be going to your site, since others here have done that and I respect their opinions of what I would need to unsee over there. All religion, ideologies, whatever, all of it has the same potential to be a mental health disorder. Why single out just one of them? Being a person with no beliefs in any deity, I have to wonder about something. The God that all the religions claim as their own, what would you suppose would happen if He/She were to come back and get to some ass whooping about all these people speaking for Him/Her. I'll bet you any kind of money, he/she would be pissed off as hell, I know I sure as hell don't like people putting words in my mouth. This poor guy/girl has been having shit done in His/Her name for thousands of years and every year they add to it with new religions. Hey, now I think about it, maybe that is the reason for not coming back. Tired of all the crap and said screw it, let these idiots fight amongst themselves.

The muslims who support the building of a mosque at – or nearby to – Ground Zero clearly have no idea of integration.

THEY were not guilty but THEY need to open there eyes and realise that the west understandably considers Islam responsible in so many ways.

It’s a matter of respect.

If Islam won’t respect ‘us’ then we can’t possibly respect ‘it’.

Build a mosque by all means but if you really want to build anywhere near Ground Zero you’re saying ‘Islam counts, you don’t’

Forget political correctness and get real American muslims.

YOU need to build a few bridges as you know damn well WE perceive Islam as dangerous, and given 9/11 how can you blame us?

It’s YOUR call not ours.

Be a bit sympathetic to us kaffirs eh?

You never know…we might even accept you and your faith if you stop trampling over us…..

Depravity is something that cuts across all ethnic, racial, and religious categories. And, so, too, apparently, does hysteria. Yes, we need to extract the cancer – absolutely. But let’s do it in a way that doesn’t annihilate everything else, too.

Interesting that you used cancer as an analogy here. When treating cancer, the patient is essentially being poisoned (chemotherapy, radiation). My husband says going through cancer treatment is rough because they almost kill you in order to save you (this from a 4-time cancer survivor). So while I agree with your sentiment, I think a bit of annihilation may be necessary, much as it is with cancer.

Tbone was here yesterday too.went to his website, lead story was “Muslims rape 2 year old Christian girl for not converting”. I assume readers here are bright enough that I don’t need to elaborate. Oh,also had a staged picture of a screaming blond White girl being menaced by dark guys.
Look there are sick people out there with agendas. If someone says religious people are fools, cool. You have a right to your opinion. If someone says God loves you, same right.
But when they say one of the three very similar Abrahamic religions is evil, they have an agenda. Take that into consideration before you buy their story.
Go to a library or look at credible internet sources.

“If Hitler had claimed that ‘Mein Kampf’ was dictated by God, would we be forced to tolerate the Nazi Party as a religion? ”

And yet the very argument ITself is the primary reason for all this furor over the community center in NYC. Most of those against this are invoking the same GOD who IS Allah, to condemn this.
Geeze, what’s this guy gonna say about my video post?

“Jewish rabbis who circumcise infants with Biblical way- with their teeth! ” I had no idea. Whoa. That’s a little wild.

So much religious intolerance and fucknuttery that it is hard to choose who do rag on first. Hmmm… Catholic priest pedophiles who aren’t charged despite being fully assimilated members of the secular societies in which they live?

Tribal religions whose profound ignorance and superstition mingled with newly minted Christian fervor cause them to throw acid on their children to exorcise them?

Jewish rabbis who circumcise infants with Biblical way- with their teeth!

But I gotta say that of all the insanity going on the “Lord’s” name, contemporarily, nothing is worse for women than Islam. Do I hate it? No. Do I fear it? Yes. I am afraid for the women who must endure it, and I am afraid for the societies in which it spreads.

I am similarly afraid for the children whose idiotic parents refuse to vaccinate them or give them blood transfusions, or make them adopt vegetarian diets, or neglect their health utterly in the name of religion or “purification” (These aren’t just Christians, these are New Agers too.)

‘Religious’ tolerance?

The privileges of being classed as religion should be withdrawn from Islam.

If Hitler had claimed that ‘Mein Kampf’ was dictated by God, would we be forced to tolerate the Nazi Party as a religion? Islam is first and foremost a mind-destroying, totalitarian political ideology that spreads through the Body Politic like a virus.

Winston Churchill gave the correct diagnosis over a century ago, when he compared Islam to a contagious virus or meme – ‘as dangerous in a man as rabies in a dog’ http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/islam-murder-meme-and-rabies-of.html

Consequently, Islam should be reclassified from ‘RELIGION’ to ‘PUBLIC MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM’ – a virulent contagious mental illness. It could then be contained by the methods used to prevent the spread of typhoid and other lethal epidemics: enforced exclusion and quarantine of carriers, eradication of foci of infection, immunization of the susceptible population etc.

Several things about your comment that raised red flags for me, Trencherbone.

Anytime a comment references Hitler or the Nazi Party, they had better be talking about history, maybe something like the “Night of the Long Knives” or it is automatically suspect.

You are only talking about Islam and not the problems of other religions. For example, perversion of Christianity, especially in some of the African nations, some of them written about here in MMA.

There is lot of crazy Fundamentalism going around, by all religions, but I suspect that you have your eye on only one particular “epidemic”.

Your comments eerily remind me of Martin Niemoeller’s statement: “First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.”

Ignorant hatred is more of a threat to American ideals than Islam, which is actually very close to Judeo-Christian beliefs.

That is just inflaming hate. A better tactic might be to welcome it with open arms, eagerly asking to see the proposed use of space and offering to host classes and such for them inside.
