Hawking: Extinction inevitable – head to space if we are to survive

Read Time:36 Second

If mankind is to survive we must leave earth for colonies on other planets within the next 100 years, warns renowned physicist Stephen Hawking. “I see big dangers for mankind. Our only chance of long-term survival is not to remain inward looking on planet Earth but to spread out into space,” he said in a Big Think interview. “Our future is in space.” If we are the “only intelligent beings in the galaxy, we should make sure we survive.” And if we encounter aliens in outer space? Be careful, warns Hawking, because they might not be so friendly.

Dr. Hawking are you just getting around to reading my poem “Adrift.” There is no doubt man will destroy this rock and I doubt that he will have “The Last Cell Standing” to figure away off this planet. Even if he does it will be the so called elite of this world. The rich and powerful and they will not be able to manage the next rock either, and then it will die also. Until we humans learn to care for the natural resources we have we will eventually kill everything that could save us. We are the cancer.

Can we just not make the rubes go away, that would take care of half of them right there and the rest of us could save the planet? Just a thought.

More importantly…is there a bar?

If you live in a nice part of the planet, make the most of it, it is surely going down hill.

Pssahw! LOL I worship Hawking! yet; I’m still Hopey Changey about it. I WORK AT IT! but if you must exit, be sure to stop by one of our brand new polar slushy stands on your way off world! LMFAO It is a fright!

How old is Hawking? Just because he has been brilliant doesn’t mean he’s not susceptible to dementia.

agreed. I don’t think it’s going to be a mass/complete emigration, just more of our usual expansion and exploitation… until as Hawking suggests, we run into a bigger, more technically advanced civilization than our own in space.

I think if we need to leave the earth in the next 100 years and get the population in outer space to form colonies, we are doomed.

I don’t think we could evacuate New York State in 100 years even if we started right now.

That’s a bit alarmist.
