Meg Whitman pumps $104 million into her own campaign
It appears that politics is the only recession proof business operating in the United States right now. Vast amounts of monies are being raised and California Gubernatorial candidate wants the job so bad, she has paid $104 million into her own campaign fund. All House and Senate campaigns have raised a whopping $1.2 billion, the latest numbers show, which is on track to blow away the levels set in 2008, 2006 and 2004.
There are Gubernatorial races in 37 states — more than half of those for open seats — are also setting spending records, with GOP billionaire Meg Whitman leading the way.
Who is going to benefit from the 100s of millions of dollars spent? Mostly media companies, TV and big city newspapers will be showing lots of black ink on their balance sheets come the end of 2010. How honest is a TV station going to be if Whitman’s campaign manager walks into their office and plonks $5 million on the table for a series of ads, that will probably be packed with lies and innuendo. Will they expose her ties to Wall Street or will they promote her as the former CEO of eBay who wants to set business free?
Regardless of money raised, money spent and media manipulation, what is going to propel the GOP to victories, is Republican voter enthusiasm, coupled with Democratic voter lethargy. It’s not all about the money.

I can’t believe what’s happening in America. How could someone like this win anything?
I just can’t imagine this idiot as a California office holder. I mean come on America!
If she really had wanted to help the economy she could have given every man woman and child in California a million each and she would have has 60 left over. Oh and the money she spent, ask if any of it was spent helping the Ca economy, go ahead ask me. Nope, it was all sent out of state to cheaper places to make her ads for her. Stupid woman, another one that has a shot at being governor, even though she has said she will cut jobs and lower taxes on the wealthy here in CA.
The GOP want her to win real bad. Hope California wakes up before November.
I feel that I need to point out that the population of the state of California is 36,961,664. A billion dollars is only 1000 million dollars. Meg Whitman is worth $1.3Billion dollars or 1,300 million. She could only give $35.17 to every person in Ca. before running out of money.
That being said she is a horrible person and I cannot believe anyone would vote for her, but there are a lot of stupid people in the world. The salary for the Governor of California is only $212,179 but she is spending $100,000,000 to get this job, why? because she plans on getting it back by taking our tax dollars and distributing them to her rich friends and corporations. Also winning this election will be her first step in a Presidential bid, so she can really rape this country the way Bush did.
