Musings From The Edge: Baby I’m Amazed…

Read Time:2 Minute, 53 Second

at how stupid people have become. Or maybe it has always been this way. It just seems that these days it is worse than any time I can remember. But again, maybe I just wasn’t paying attention before. Ten years ago, or there abouts the country’s economy was in pretty good shape. The unemployment rate was in the 4% range, poverty was at a very low rate, and the government had a surplus. President Clinton’s approval rating stayed in the 60+ % range despite the brouhaha over the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Everybody seemed happy because the economy was good and so I guess the President received all the credit for it. How much the President actually had to do with the actual condition of the economy is actually a guess. At that particular moment Persident Clinton had his hands (so to speak) full trying to deal with the likes of Newt Gingrich who were trying to crucify him over the Lewinsky sexual infidelity allegation charges. Actually the economy was taking care of itself at the time. Now it is different.

Today as we look at the economy it is gloom, despair, and deep dark depression all over the place. Once again it is the Presidents fault, at least according to the jerk off spin doctors. Everyone seems to have forgotten about the banks and the wall street hedge fund managers and their phony loans that brought the economy to its knees. They have also forgotten about the bailout proposed and actually planned by President Bush’s Administration to shore up the economy and get things stabilized. All people want is someone to blame. They suddenly became so fear struck they began to shut down their brains and go into panic survival mode. Acting somewhat like rats trying to leave a sinking ship they began to grasp at anything and everything to blame, curse, vandalize, or to worship. If I was a true believer of the many Biblical stories I would say they were behaving much like the Hebrews did when Moses spent too much time on the mountain. They are building various idols to which they are willing to pledge their faith to in hopes that things will get better. Like those alleged foolish souls people in this country are doing the same thing. It is a long used, and often successful, tactic of the Republican Party only magnified by the so called “Tea Party Extremists.”

</P. Suddenly this has, apparently, made economic experts out of just about everyone who can get anyone to listen to them. The American people who have shut off their brains are now running from one pundit to the next until they find one that says what their survival instinct wants to hear and they say, "Yeah, That's right!" They never stop to think who it is saying it or why, or how they may be right. They just like what they hear. They start to respond to sound bites not to reason. Any jerk can be a prognosticator of anything from twiddly winks to moon shots, but that doesn't mean they are going to be right. But, in order to have a reasonable chance even being close to correct one must have some education and serious background in the area of the field of prognostication. People who believe these "best guessers" without checking their pedigrees are, in my opinion, just plain stupid.

I follow this site and read every word. Some words are smarter than others but all words are directed at learning and laughing. Thanks Mr. Mad for all that you give us. Mr. Lazer I agree with every nuance. Thanks. I love your stuff.

AYUP, stupidity is now valued. We just need to look at the Tundra twit and her snowbilly family as one example. Her musings last week included this gem from Twitter and I am paraphrasing here, because her word salad makes no damn sense to anyone except her. Below the tweet in question.

>> Obama speech tonight will have you dusting off your old copy of Orwell so that rewritten history can be deciphered to see who gets credit for the surge. <<

First of all, there are so many things wrong with this, I don't know where to start, so I will start with this. Orwell was not a historian, he was a NOVELIST dumbass. Second of all, 1984 is not an instruction manual or a history book so trying to decipher history from there is trying to decipher the voices you hear in your head. Second, is she talking Animal Farm and we just don't know there are herds of communist animals somewhere, or is she talking 1984 where civil servants are going about changing things to Newspeak? Third, Orwell was a known socialist dumbass.

It really is shameful that someone like this is listened to at all, let alone her tweets make news. She's like the guy muttering to himself on the corner, about the invisible people coming to get him. Here's my version of the Tundra twit's Newspeak, stupidity is wisdom. Wonder what author is next for her, I mean she's called up Shakespeare because he made words up, now she has Orwell writing the history she wants. The stoopid runs strong in this one.

Great comment Jess. Except for one thing. You just downgraded every twit in the world by lumping The Palin in with them. However, she is one of the Stupids that the stupids are listening to right now. It doesn’t matter what she says they will lap it up like a bunch of wild dogs who have eaten in days.

I know and it amazes me, she constantly makes the news with just outright lies and stupidity. All the talk about let’s let the corporations do this that and the other.

I am about go full on Godwin here so beware. I wonder if this is how the regular everyday German felt, before the National Socialist party came into power, they were just so overwhelmed with bullshit and lies, they kind of started looking the other way and allowed everything to be taken over to the extent it was.

I would hope we would have enough people here, willing to stand up to these companies that if given the chance would make sure we have to pay them so we can work at their companies. Breaks, thing of the past, weekends non existent, safety regulations, nah we don’t need those. Just scary what some of the so called powers that be want to happen.

Brilliant post, lazersedge. My dad is fond of saying, “Some people have IQs lower than their temperatures.” With the the development of texting, language is becoming more abbreviated and hinders one’s ability to express themselves. We are becoming an Orwellian society. Clinton’s “scandal” with Monica was a non-issue. When Clinton signed NAFTA , he helped destroy jobs and allowed multinationals to ship our jobs out, creating the economic catastrophy in which we find ourselves. And then there was Iraq…

Agreed Stella, about the Orwellian leanings society is volunteering itself for, with a twist. I don’t believe Big Brother is government but is corporations They want a bigger piece of every dollar we have and the only way to combat the power of our Corporate Overlords is for another corporation to rise up and defeat them. I thought Google (Don’t Be Evil) might have been the one, not so sure now.

Holte I couldn’t agree with you more. It is the government being run by the corporations. They just proved that during the big recession debacle. The companies screwed up then started slapping the government around like bitches (still are).

Great to see you Stella. I am not sure when people starting being so stupid but I can remember when my step father, who had only an 8th grade education used to watch every news program and read every newspaper everyday and then say, “I don’t think any of these idiots know what they are talking about.” I still say that the biggest problem we have today is in our educational system going back to the late seventies when they stopped telling kids “YOU FAILED, DO IT AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT.” This entitlement crap is killing our minds, you don’t get anything just for being in the class or being on the team. You actually have to accomplish something.
