Oil platform explodes in Gulf!

Read Time:1 Minute, 0 Second

An offshore oil platform exploded in the Gulf of Mexico about 100 miles off the Louisiana coast today, but this one appears headed toward a much better ending than BP’s explosion. All 13 people aboard have been rescued—though one is reportedly injured—and the platform wasn’t producing oil or gas. Still, that doesn’t rule out the possibility that the explosion triggered an underground leak. The platform, known as Vermilion Oil Platform 380 and owned by Mariner Energy of Houston, was floating in about 340 feet of water when the blast occurred.

The cause remains unclear. It’s about 200 miles west of BP’s blown Macondo well, but in far shallower water. A federal spokeswoman said the platform was authorized to produce oil and gas at this depth but had not been recently in active production. “There were ongoing maintenance activities underway,” she said.

I wrote aout this also. Apparently no oil was leaked, thank God. The platform was owned by Mariner Energy of Houston.

I just sold my oil company stocks so my conscience is now clear. I am once again a member of the pinko liberal clique.

From what I have been reading it seems like a small oil company, not one of the big guys, not that that makes a difference. I did find out, that there are over 3k rigs there in that area of the gulf, I did not know that before today. I think it was a gas platform too, not an oil platform and I think the oil being seen is easy to capture, it’s like a storage tank or something where it’s coming from, but that is what they said about the last one. Apparently this company and the company they were meging with, Apache had just gone to Houston yesterday to protest the moratorium there in the gulf. Also lots of fines have been handed out to the companies. I’ll go grab a link and update this.
