Arab Judge decrees wife beating lawful

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

A judge in the United Arab Emirate country of Sharjah has upheld a man’s right to beat his wife and daughter under Shari’a law. This is such a normal occurrence that he was not in trouble for the beating itself, but for the fact he left bruises.  While we as a nation, and any self-respecting feminist might find this vile, it must be remembered that for them it is culturally normal. Indeed, the UAE is much less strict on women than its neighbor Saudi Arabia.

Apparently if the man has exhausted his other options for dealing with an unruly wife what, she wanted to show her nose today?, admonition and abstinence though this might not really be a punishment for her, he is allowed to slap her around so long as he doesn’t leave a mark. Also, his daughter (at age 23) is supposedly too old to be subject to “last resort” paternal beatings, presumably because abstaining from sex with your daughter is not considered discipline.

Muslim clerics were quick to point out that the man had crossed the line by “injuring” his wife:

Jihad Hashim Brown, head of research at the Tabah Foundation, said: “It’s unlawful in sharia – if taken in its entirety – to injure one’s wife. It’s unlawful to insult the dignity of one’s wife. That is if we look at the tradition as a whole: the Qur’an, the hadith and writings of Islamic jurists.”

Dr Ahmed al-Kubaisi, head of sharia studies at UAE University and Baghdad University, told the paper that under sharia, beating one’s wife was an option to prevent the breakdown of the family. It should be used only as a substitute to resorting to the police. Dr Jassim al-Shamsi, dean of the college of law at UAE University, said love and respect were more important among husbands and wives than any discipline.

I think it’s a mess of bullshit designed to allow men to be homosexual enough to devote themselves to MALE ONLY orgies aka caliphates where self abuse is the name of the game see christian “flaggelents” during the PLAGUE and the Shia Muslim faith both abuse themselves, masturbate, publicly for personal gratification. Abusing Women DOES NOT GLAMORIZE MALE ONLY SOCIETIES. It is an archaic belief structure.

What I don’t understand is the women here vote for men who want to take rights away that have already been granted. It’s not a whole hell of a lot different.

Agree with you there Fly, but it’s not just women voting against their own interests, it’s millions of men too.

Shari’a law is in every country where there’s a Muslim population including the US, big difference here and in the UK it’s used to settle domestic disputes and is not the law of the land (thank Picard). Any country that uses their holy book as a guide to legally bind issues belongs in the Stone Age.

Clearly our Western societies are a bit superior to Arab Muslim societies.

Wait, can I say that? Too late. Already did.

Wife beating happens in Western societies as well. However, because it’s illegal, as with prostitution, it simply tends to take place under the radar, unregulated.

I’m not sure what that says about which society is superior. Maybe we’re all just f*cked up?

I’m inclined to think the society that makes it against the law is superior.

I’m inclined to agree that the legal system in the society that makes it illegal is superior.

The society at large, on the other hand…tougher call.
