Dems gaining on GOP – Progressives weep
America’s so called “progressives” have spent most of the year pounding Democrats for everything they’ve done and everything they weren’t able to get done. Their hatred of Barack Obama is particularly evident. Once it became clear that the president was not Harry Potter they became enraged, calling him names and swearing to vote against him and everything he represented. So, today is a sad day for them even though the sun is still shining on the Republicans. Here is the story:
After taking a pounding in the polls for months, Democrats are gaining round ahead of the 2010 election. Over the last month, they’ve cut the GOP lead in half on the question of which party’s candidates voters support, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll, and Democratic candidates have taken leads over their Republican opponents in several individual races.
Overall, however, things are still looking good for Republicans. Among likely voters, the elephants have a 49%-43% edge on the congressional ballot, a big swing from 2006, when Democrats led by 12 points. Polls show Republican voters are much more invested in the election than their Democratic counterparts, with nearly three-quarters saying it was more important than other congressional elections in their lifetimes.

Try to stay focused on the thread. If I want comedy I’ll tune in to Comedy Central 🙂 Thanks old beaner 🙂
Obama is a consumate politician. He tried to use the republican’s refusal of bipartisanship as a campaign issue against them. Unfortunately the avalanche of lies and misleads from FOX News and their tea bagging stooges has drowned that out.
Although I to am disillusioned I refuse to let that be a victory for the republicans. There are many now that think giving up and handing power back to the republicans is somehow a good strategy. It’s not. It’s naive, bordering ignorant. First of all, Bush had the bully pulpit and it helped him get reelected. Eight years of Bush, Cheney and energy companies running our country was eight years too many. We can’t afford that.
If we lose it won’t be because I sat on the sidelines being disillusioned or angry that the Senate didn’t do away with the filibuster at the start of the year. Or blanche Lincoln and Ben Nelson are useless cowards and scumbags who use the Democratic Party apparatus to get elected then suck at the phgallus of the republicans.
We all see what President Obama is fighting. He’s only had two years to fix what has been thirty years of supply side republican hatred of Working Americans to screw up. We owe the President and our Nation our efforts to clean up what republicans have trashed.
Mike,
I’ll go with Stimpson and raise you one.I think you’re confusing patriotism with hatred. Since when is wanting affordable healthcare-which obama ultimately opposed-and wanting needed financial reform-which obama also ultimately opposed-hatred?
I would say wanting a better life for our fellow Americans is not hateful at all, it’s a good thing.
I haven’t been disappointed with Obama. My perception is that he has taken all that he has been given in pushing this country back in the right direction, out of the depressing hole that Republicans put us in. Once progressives understand that Obama is a left of center, capitalist moderate, everything he has done, and the way he did it makes sense. I don’t believe he ever claimed to be a progressive. The guys in the Whitehouse are very smart are very pragmatic. I doubt there was ever any rampant naivete with Rahm Emanuel sucker punching folks in the halls of the west wing. They have known what they were doing with eyes wide open from the get go.
Mike, I think you’re confusing disappointment with hatred.
No doubt Mike but “hatred” creates a much better discussion thread 🙂
I consider myself a Progressive and I don’t hate Obama. He has been disappointing, but more because of his naivete in thinking reaching across the aisle was a good idea. People forget how little political experience he had. The dissenters that came out of the woodwork and voted him in may not show up at all, but we can hope the tea party candidates will offset that.
If I thought it would matter more than a fart in the wind, I’d write in Cthulhu as a candidate- why choose the lesser evil?
Holte In Georgia that’s a given.
I don’t trust polls anymore since our last two governors’ races. The Lame Stream Media wants this to be a tight race or how else can they sell all that Viagra and Eharmony?
The only poll I will pay attention to will be the one taken on the eve of the election, and if it rains/snows on November 2 polls will be rendered useless.
