Muzings From The Edge: Mouth Overloads Butt?

Read Time:3 Minute, 57 Second

Sometimes folks these days will let a football rivalry get a little too carried away. This young fellow here from Tampa, Florida came up with the seemingly neat idea of poking some fun at the Alabama folks on the eve of the Alabama – Florida game with a cute You Tube put down of Alabama and the Alabama faithful. I know that people in Texas are crazy about their football and in other states they really do like their Saturday afternoon pigskin tussles. But folks, in Alabama football is a religion. If you doubt it just read how they reacted to the teasing this old boy put out. Also, you might also consider how smart he is to have decided not to attended the game. I thank the Tuscaloosa News and the Gainesville Sun and Mr Crabbe for giving us the inside scoop on this.

YouTube UF fan calls video a farce, staying home in FL

By Nathan Crabbe
Gainesville Sun Staff Writer

A University of Florida fan’s video trashing Alabama has become an Internet sensation and has led Tuscaloosa police to work to prevent him from being attacked at Saturday’s game.
The video shows a Gator fan in a suit and sunglasses spouting profanity-laced insults about Alabama, while an attractive woman in an orange top and blue underwear stands beside him. He mocks Crimson Tide fans as well as their home state, saying people there have vertical family trees and live in a state that smells like “hot dog water.”
He challenges Alabama fans to confront him — he boasts about being 6 foot 5 inches tall and “a black belt in four types of martial arts” — and gives the locations where he says he’ll be tailgating and sitting at the game. Tuscaloosa police have distributed his photo to officers who plan to look for him to prevent trouble.
There’s just one problem: He says it’s all a gag and that he’s not even going to the game.
“It’s absolutely mind boggling to me that someone can watch that video and not realize it’s an absolute farce, but that’s Alabama fans I guess,” said the man who claims to have created the video. He asked to be identified only by his first name, Sam, to avoid more of the threats he said he already had received.
Sam said his address and phone number have been posted online and that he had received death threats and angry messages filling his cell-phone voice mail and home answering machine. Pizzas have been ordered to his home, and someone even tried to take out a credit card in his name, he said.
He said the Tampa-based radio host known as “Bubba the Love Sponge” first brought attention to the video. The sports website Deadspin subsequently picked it up. The video had been viewed nearly 198,000 times and received more than 1,800 comments on YouTube as of Friday afternoon.
“I was not expecting this sort of attention,” he said.
The Sun contacted Sam through his account on YouTube. He said he’s 29 years old and graduated from UF in 2004 and is now working in a white-collar job. He rebutted online reports that the video actually featured a convicted felon by another name who doesn’t have permission to leave the state and also had his personal information posted online.
With the video receiving so much attention, Sam said he feels sorry for the people sitting in the seats he named and any people being falsely accused of making the video.
“I feel legitimately bad for a few people,” he said.
In the video, Sam calls himself a “football genius” before saying that Alabama stole head coach Nick Saban in “they same you stole Bryant Denny from Kentucky.” Bryant-Denny is the name of Alabama’s stadium, named in part for the late coach Paul “Bear” Bryant,” who previously coached at Kentucky.
Sam said he was trying to portray a character like Ali G — the Sacha Baron Cohen character who acts clueless while interviewing celebrities — and had difficulty keeping a straight face. He said the martial arts claim was a joke — although he said he actually is 6-foot-5, despite Internet skepticism.
And all the bluster about the Gators giving the Crimson Tide the worst loss in its history? Sam said he doesn’t even believe UF will win.
“I knew Florida had no chance, so I wanted to get in a few jabs beforehand,” he said.

One things for sure, there are a lot of things you can say about Alabama, and most of them might be bad and true, But, if you plan on living in this state you need to pick between Auburn and Alabama and you better love football.

Yeah, I know Oso. Sometimes it is worth putting up with the idiots just to look at the women at the games.

Yeah, funny, but stupid. This isn’t Colombia where they kill the goalie or Scotland where supporters go at it with bottles and chains, but still, -a sports fan is a fan, and “fan” is short for “FANATIC.”
My first day at the new Yankee stadium last year was a great match against the Red Sox, and while I sat in the bleachers I saw three fights break out, the last between two very big, very heavy women. After that, the cops took up residence in those boxes, while fights broke out elsewhere. I’ve been to Fenway twice(not for Yankee games oddly), and I had the decency to keep my mouth shut in enemy territory and enjoy the game.

SJ I have heard about the madness between the Yankee and Bosox fans. Here in Tuscaloosa the stadium now holds 101,000+ people and most of them idiots like this guy. I don’t know what happen to the idea of good sportsmanship but it has clearly been lost on a lot of folks.

This guy who did the video is brainless. Then again if not now he just might be by game time. The Georgia fans are just the same, and with me living right on the Georgia-Florida line I get it with both barrels. Flags waving, marches, pep-rallies…well you get the idea my friend.

Oh yes, I understand Mike. I just thought this was funny as hell that the TPD took it serious enough to put out a BOLO for the guy to protect him.
