Reviewers Love Let Me In, Loathe My Soul To Take
Plan on seeing a scary movie this Halloween weekend? Critical consensus suggests you see Let Me In and skip My Soul To Take.
A remake of a 2008 Swedish film, Let Me In stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) and Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) as a bullied 12-year-old boy and the child vampire who befriends him. It registers a whopping 89% at Rotten Tomatoes, 79 at Metacritic. But it has flopped at the box offfice, so you might have a hard time finding Let Me In at a theater anywhere near you.
Another recommended horror movie is Paranormal Activity 2 with 68% at Tomatoes.
Saw 3D opens today to a chilly reception from professional movie watchers. Indeed, some were cutting in their assessments. “Incomprehensible story, cheesy dialogue, poor execution, cheap production value – Saw 3D hits for the cycle of bad filmmaking,” Movies.com declares.
Not recommended by the vast majority of reviewers is My Soul To Take, a Wes Craven-directed flick liked by a meager 9% at Tomatoes. The Boston Globe says it’s Craven’s worst movie. A New York Times reviewer calls it “thoroughly dreary.”
Myself, I think I’ll stick to watching movies at home this weekend. Maybe I’ll borrow a friend’s copy of Let the Right One In. Maybe I’ll finally check out the original Dawn of the Dead and decide if it rocks as hard as the 2004 remake. Or maybe I’ll go totally non-Halloween and watch The Truth About Cats and Dogs for the 27th time.

I love the Truth about Cats and Dogs. I watched Darkness Falls today. Pretty good movie and also watched Legion, sort of like Children of Men in that, they have to rescue an unborn child, mixed up with The Prophecy and demons coming to earth to fight the humans. Only the demons are angels. That one was just okay, I preferred Darkness Falls. Zombieland also, campy zombie movie.
I love Zombieland!
I think I’ll watch a real horror movie and put on anything by Michael Moore.
Hadn’t thought of that. Long time since I watched Bowling for Columbine. And Farhenheit 9/11 is chilling in parts.
“Let Me In” is probably one of the worst movies I ever tried to watch, at least the version I saw which was dubbed and poorly I might add. The first Paranormal was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen so I would like to see the sequel. Thanks Mike.
You must have seen Let the Right One In, the Swedish original. Let Me In is a U.S. production, in English, of course.
That was it!!
