Two-Thirds Blame Churches for Gay Teen Suicides

Read Time:35 Second

About 65% of Americans think that anti-gay messages from religious leaders contribute to suicides among homosexual youths, a new poll finds. Slightly more, 72%, agree that religion at least somehow contributes to negative views of gays and lesbians, say researchers at the nonprofit Public Religion Research Institute. Twice as many people gave churches low marks as gave them high marks.

The leader of the gay rights group Faith in America tells the Salt Lake Tribune that the results point to progress. “There is a growing awareness and understanding about the harm that is caused when society places a religious or moral stamp of disapproval on the lives of gay and lesbian individuals, especially youths,” he says.

Anti-gay rhetoric starts in the churches, as the scientific community has basically admitted for a long while that it is biological in origin. IT will be 30 more years, but I think it will be completely acceptable to be gay eventually, just as interracial relationships are accepted more now.

Then you have Focus on everyone elses family and NOM and the rest of the minions talking about, no “teh gheyz” are predisposed to depression and mental illness, this is why they are committing suicide. I don’t hate very many groups or individuals, but I do hate these people that are supposedly “good” Christians dogging on the other.

I can’t understand how only 72% agree that religion contributes to negative views about gays. The remaining 28% are in denial.

The remaining 28% must have thought the questioner was a panhandler. I agree, an honest answer would have generated a 90% + response.

I wish I could disagree.I really, really wish I could.Don’t understand how people can call themselves religious then treat decent people so terribly.
Same people who are pro-life yet support war.Assholes using religion as a base for their intolerance.
