Comments don’t equal visitors at MadMikesAmerica

Read Time:1 Minute, 19 Second

A friend of mine asked me today why there weren’t many comments on some posts and why I wasn’t concerned about it.

The fact is comments are less than 1% of 1% post traffic, at the minimum.  For example, a post may have 2 comments but still have 2K page views in the short term, and 200K in the long term.  It is all about searching and marketing.

The more controversial the comments the more the hits.  A controversial post is a huge draw, numbers wise.

Here is an example:

In July we had over 40K hit on one post.  There were about 170 comments.  Do the math.

We love comments at MMA, simply because we encourage healthy discussion, but comments are not our bread and butter.

Finally, about half of our readers don’t enable “cookies.”  As a result when they visit there is no footprint.  The same applies to tweets, and facebook applications.  Few numbers, and in some case, none, at least none identifiable.

MMA averages around 100K (cookie enabled) visits a month, with 200K total.  The number continues to grow and we are happy about that.

So dear writers and dear readers, get to writing and reading.  We are proud of who we are at MadMikesAmerica and your participation is important to us.

So if you want to write for us send a mail to madmikes2@gmail.com.  We are looking for folk who are willing to write at least once a week for no money but a lot of vacation time.

Email us and we will expose you to the world 🙂

Lots of comments usually mean a nerve has been touched and a response is necessary. A post with next to no comments could have many more hits. Very hard to define.
