Democrats – It won’t happen again, next time we’ll vote

Read Time:1 Minute, 27 Second

The tidal wave that swept Democrats to power in 2008, was people driven. Young people came out in droves, this week they stayed home in large numbers. Older people voted, they always do. 63% of the electorate was over the median income. Rich, white, old people, they voted, everyone else didn’t. Check out this exit poll chart by ABC News HERE.

The swing voters, who appear to decide every major election, did it again. The Republican wins were also aided by the apathy of traditional Democrats. People who vote Democrat in one election and Republican in another challenge my thinking. The swing voter goes by the official term “Independent.”

An estimated 37 percent of all American voters now call themselves independents or unaffiliated voters, according to a recent study by the Pew Research Center. This is a bigger group than those who say they are Democrats (34 percent) or those who identify themselves as Republicans (28 percent). The percentage of voters who say the are independent is the largest in 70 years.

To use a sports metaphor: For the past 2 years I have been Kansas City Chiefs fan, but this year I will give all my support to the Denver Broncos, because of the lousy call on third-and-goal which cost the Chiefs the game. My credibility was up for ridicule, so goodbye Kansas City, hello Denver, now you make me look smart.

If all persons who call themselves Democrats voted, they would not suffer landslide defeats. Every race would be fiercely contested and Republicans would be drawn to the center. At every level of government, Democrats had better get busy voting, or get busy whining.

Independent swing voters and Democrats who stay home handed the Republicans this victory.

stop whining democrats

I know I voted and I had a few friends start bitching about some things. When I asked if they voted and they said no, I told them to grow the fuck up, next time vote and then they can bitch and moan all they want. There is no excuse for not voting, not like you have to wait in long lines in a midterm or even in this damn state, we can ask for permanent absentee ballot no questions asked. Same thing with that little celebuspawn Bristol Palin, ooops I forgot to mail in my ballot with the obligatory, sorry mom and a tundra twit giggle.

Tell Al Franken a few votes out of millions cast, don’t make a difference. Tell Patty Murray right now, who just won the WA senate race that a few votes don’t count.

Great post. The Democrats who didn’t vote have no one to blame but themselves. And yes, Obama didn’t give us everything we wanted, but what are we, two years old? Come on, have a little patience and some longer-term memory, please! Take a look at the big picture people! Yes, there is corruption on both sides, corporatism on both sides. But when you look at policies, the Democrats are still the only choice for anyone who cares about this country. The best (or the perfect) is the enemy of the good. Dems just love throwing the baby out with the bathwater. They’re so good at it. Sorry for all the cliche’s.

Had Obama worked on our behalf rather than that of the banks people would have stood in line for hours to vote.
By your reasoning, the problem with our country isn’t corrupt politicians whose policy is directed by corporate interests, rather the problem is working Americans aren’t enthused and supportive of that corruption.
Interesting theory, parallels condemning Iraqis not enthusiastic about our attacking them.

It’s as with FDR and the New Deal.
Getting anybody into office is only the first step. We can’t check out when Freedom Works and other phony “grassroots” groups start sending people to town halls to call any efforts to give people medical coverage a Socialist plot.
And sadly Oso on your point specifically, I don’t think many people know enough about financial reform, and the banking regulations that went into effect post Spring 2009 to even know how weak or counter-productive they really are as protections as you’ve stated repeatedly in other posts.
This election cycle was not the product of a disappointment with Obama’s collusion/sympathy toward banking institutions, after all, you’ll never hear a Republican complain about that right?
What killed the Democrats is the historically recurring midterm laziness and an “are we done yet?” attitude about everything. Aspects of the 2008 financial catastrophe were 25 or 10 years in the making depending on what particular failures we are talking about: –That Republicans judged this Administration, Senate and Congressional class (and themselves ironically) on only their ability to reverse the catastrophic consequences of Reaganomics and deregulation within 2 years is as predictable as it is calculated. But for Democrats and Independents to buy into that horse shit is just criminal.
The Nation deserves what it voted for, and will suffer the consequences of remaining silent on election day.
Just the redistricting that is up for grabs is reason to vote, and makes disappointment with banking reform an invalid justification, even if it were the central justification for staying home, which I don’t believe it is.

I have to agree that no one whines like a Democrat. I just heard that a large percentage of Democrats stayed home on election day. There reasons were as expected:

“The president didn’t give us everything we wanted so we’re mad at him and we’re going to show him.”

Well, whiners! Enjoy life with idiots like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.

Holte, is it possible due to advanced age-Mike’s vote and your vote skewed the exit polls?

My feelings is that if you don’t vote, then you do not have the right to voice a political opinion. Simple as that!

And bitching about the government is voicing an opinion.

What I tell people is, “Are you going to let someone else decide FOR YOU?” It’s truly shocking that SIXTY PERCENT DIDN’T VOTE!!! Well, maybe the repubs will screw things up enough or HOLD THINGS UP enough over the next two years that the SIXTY PERCENT will get FIRED UP again…

I voted and I got every Democrat that I know to pledge to vote. Can I whine now? 🙂
