Breaking News: Fox News Will Make You Dumb

A recent study, published by The University of Maryland School for Public Policy, gaging public understanding of political issues surrounding the 2010 midterm elections and media involvement, came to some ugly conclusions about people that pollute there minds with Fox News. The conclusion is that Fox News viewers were more misinformed than, well, everyone else.
Those who watched Fox News almost daily were significantly more likely than those who never watched it to believe that:
* Most economists estimate the stimulus caused job losses.
* Most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit.
* The economy is getting worse.
* Most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring.
* The stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts.
* Their own income taxes have gone up.
* The auto bailout only occurred under Obama.
* When TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it.
* And that it is not clear that Obama was born in the United States.These effects increased incrementally with increasing levels of exposure and all were statistically significant. The effect was also not simply a function of partisan bias, as people who voted Democratic and watched Fox News were also more likely to have such misinformation than those who did not watch it — though by a lesser margin than those who voted Republican.
According to Media Matters, in reaction to the survey and study, Michael Clemente, Fox senior vice president of news editorial, had this to say in defense of his organization:
“The latest Princeton Review ranked the University of Maryland among the top schools for having ‘Students Who Study The Least’ and being the ‘Best Party School’ – given these fine academic distinctions, we’ll regard the study with the same level of veracity it was ‘researched’ with.”
Typical, low-brow rhetorical devise; attack the messenger, not the message.
As always, I ask myself with regard to the greatest disseminator of falsities in the history of media, what is their motivation? Is it ignorance with a will, or willful ignorance at Fox News?

Max Blumenthal is incredible. Rupert Murdoch and his minions are evil, dishonest con men. The way thery manufacture news and fake political movements is appalling. Their ilk will some day involve us in a very costly war, mark my words. Joseph Goebbels would be VERY proud of Fox News and the Tea Party “movement.”

Ok, so I’m going through some stuff here on these tubey things. Not only is Fox dumbing us down. Shows like this make me want to poke hot screwdrivers through my forehead till it reaches my brain to unsee what I have seen. Here is a show that wil be coming to your tee vee machine soon. We can add this to such educational shows as, The Kardashians go to the openings of envelopes, I’m paraphrasing the title of the shows since I don’t watch, only heard of them. The Tundra twit visits her backyard, some girl has trapped a guy and has made a sex tape type show so now she is famous, get pregnant at 16 beat your boyfriend and make 280k yearly, get a spray tan, live in NJ and you’re a star. No wonder we are so very stupid here, because this is what passes for entertainment and keeps the masses docile.
I sent this link to a friend of mine, and he said: “That doesn’t sound like anything that would interest me.” I think he just read the heading. He is a very conservative republican. He sent me a link the other day saying something about a “liberal” gene and how we cannot help our crazy ideas, as it is genetic. I don’t know all the details. It did not interest me so much.
The MSM sucks in general, but Fox drags “suck” down to an entirely new level. Like taking a boat ride with Charon.
Oh here’s a surprise that shocks me. Not really, after hearing about an article in the NY Post(another Murdoch venture) where a repub council man in NY is accusing the unions of a slow down and people are reporting on it like it’s true. Halloran(repub) uses unnamed sources that came to him and told him, I’m feeling guilty blabbity blabbity. I guess anything to distract from the facts, works for Fox and their various media outlets. Makes me sick to think people are stupid enough to fall for this day after day. How in the hell do people like that manage to go through life? No need to answer me, it will just make me angrier.
Fox News – Dumb – Misinformed – Attack Messenger – Ignore Message.
All those words seem perfectly compatible with each other.

Fox news is the primary reason our country is in the situation it is. Americans are proud of being stupid. We’re screwed cuz it ain’t changing!
I will watch that in its entirety. I read Blumenthal’s book, Republican Ghamora, or how ever you spell that. Good stuff. Fear…it’s always fear.
Isn’t this some scary stuff? I mean I understand the whole freedom of speech thing and everything, but to be able to delude half the country. Oh wait! I forgot. It’s THAT half of the country. Sorry.
