Grammy Snubbed Taylor Swift – But Does It Matter?
Taylor Swift was snubbed. Utterly, completely snubbed.
That’s one of the “stories” out of the Grammy nominations announced this week.
The cute-as-a-button singer-songwriter snared nary a nod, despite winning four of the golden gramophones last go-round (when she had eight nominations) and releasing an album that hit platinum in its first week (the first one-week million-seller in five years).
Swift’s unimpressive duet with Stevie Nicks at the last Grammy Awards telecast probably hurt her a little, but then singing has never been her strong suit anyway.
It’s small consolation to Swift, one supposes, that VMAs nemesis Kanye West got just one nomination himself Wednesday night. His new album dropped only last week, and he released little in the preceding 12 months, so there wasn’t much he could have been nominated for.
At any rate, I would say the Grammys shouldn’t be taken seriously. I have many reasons for thinking so. Consider, for instance, how much the music industry awards’ prestige is lowered by sheer volume of trophies handed out every year, in 109 categories.
Consider also that, despite all those categories and all those trophies given annually, ol’ Grammy has still failed to recognize some outstanding talent over the years. The Who and Bob Marley are just two notable acts that never won a Grammy. Unless you count Lifetime Achievement awards; I don’t.
It’s easy to see how Homer Simpson thought so little of the Grammy his barbershop quartet won.

She has got no talent as far as I am concerned, all she is a cute little thing with a guitar and long blonde hair. She killed that Stevie Nicks song. Auto tuned to within an inch of your life, does not make you a singer by any stretch of the imagination.
I just finally watched that Micheal Jackson “This is it” documentary type film, about his preparations for the concert prior to his death. I was never a fan of his at all and could never understand his fans. After watching this movie, damn but he was talented and very particular about how he wanted things to be. I can now see why people were so attracted to all of his music, consummate professional and it seemed to me he had the voice and actual talent of a good entertainer. I was pleasantly surprised watching it, and came away with a new found appreciation for his music. He was a singer, Taylor Swift, not so much in my most humble opinion.
“…all she is is a cute little thing with a guitar.”
That’s enough for some of us!
Stimp old Buddy there are a lot of cute things with guitars but very few with musical with talent. Taylor Swift would make me feel like a pedophile if I viewed her as an object of desire. Especially since there are so many others who are as attractive and for more talented.
Jess, I agree with you wholeheartedly. This little, at least from what I have heard of her live performances, could not carry a note, much less a tune, in a bucket. She really reminds of a child playing dress up and pretending. You are also right about Michael Jackson. While I never been one of his biggest fans for his music per se, I have always respected him as true professional since he and his brothers first started performing as the Jackson Five. Michael was no doubt a weird person but he was also a musical and performance genius and anyone who knows anything about music will admit that he was always a stickler for perfection.
