Save Christmas

Read Time:1 Minute, 35 Second

The amount of so called PC noise regarding Christmas is getting deafening.

I know it’s a representation of an out-moded belief structure

I know it’ was “stolen” from pagan pantheists in Europe.

I know it’s become garishly commercial.

I DON’T CARE

I want it back.

I want the mince pies, the mulled wine, the Dates,  (I don’t know why, but it became traditional in the UK  to buy these strange boxes of dates at Christmas.  Each box had the dates aligned along a white plastic stem, and also had a tiny plastic toothpick in the shape of a sword) the Christmas Trees and the decorations all around the house.

I want the feeling of goodness

I want to see the ecstatic faces of the wee kiddies as they realise that “Santa’s visited” and they start opening their presents.

I want to retain that feeling of spirituality, where you feel connected to all other human beings.

This has absolutely nothing to do with religion, the origins of the holiday notwithstanding, it’s to do with tradition.  If the name of the holiday is deemed offensive by some, then they should get real, or in the other tradition of even-handedness, ban the use of similar words.  Like Ramadan,  Diwali, Hanukkah, all need to fall under the same categories of proscription.

Leave the traditions alone.  They don’t hurt anyone, and they don’t offend anyone, except a few over-sensitive liberal nutters, who should assuage their feelings (if they have to) by going to Tehran and insist that all these noisy “calls to  prayers” being broadcast from the towers should cease, as it’s offensive to the Christian minority.  I think I’d pay to watch the result.

I mention all of this as a friend sent me this link to a YouTube video, set I believe in the USA which produces a really feel-good effect.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

nice video, Robert. Thanks!

Used to be my favorite time of year, when my kids were growing up. Now, not so much but there’s few things I’d rather do than relive Christmases past with my children.

This was in Canada, they shot this flash mob singing and yeah it was great when I saw it last week, today too. I do Christmas mainly for the hubby and our niece and nephews now. Since the ‘rents passed, it’s just not as much of a joyous time for me anymore. I imagine when we have our own yet to be heres, it will get better since I will be doing what mom did for me to make it extraordinary every year.

Nice, That hit the spot for me, made me remember my years in the church choir. Great Post…Even though I am grown now, I still celebrate all the festivals of my Caribbean Heritage, which Includes Christmas, Diwali, Ramadan and Carnival.

Being from the Caribbean and all, surely you must also celebrate National “Talk Like A Pirate Day?”

I agree. I totally go balls out for Christmas, even though I am not a “believer”. I love all of it- the lights, the bread pudding, the decadent parties and the piles of presents. I even love the smell of scotch tape!

I could not agree with you more about Christmas, I love it so. My neighbors call us “The Griswolds” we have so many pretty lights we overload the grid and have plunged our part of town into darkness several times. It’s all part of the fun.

Was good to see that video being shot in a Mall Food Court, they are such Godless places.
