The Ghetto Conceptualist on Substance vs Form

Read Time:1 Minute, 57 Second

My wife divorced me fifteen years ago, I haven’t remarried and I can’t even find a girlfriend but I refuse to purchase a blowup doll. It’s not that I’m cheap, but I would think it would be obvious that it wasn’t even a real person. Well, except to those Democrats who are impressed by form and who evidently think substance is treason.

Medical costs have spiraled out of control, and will continue to do so. More than defense spending, more than interest on the national debt, more than anything else, we face a crisis in spending due to health care costs. People die, more will die. Rather than confront this dilemma, Obama and the Democrats chose to compound it by cementing health care within the private insurance industry. Paired with forcing people to buy their crappy product which will bring them hundreds of billions of dollars, this caused health insurance stock to skyrocket following passage of the bill. The legislation is rife with loopholes, likely because it was written by Wellpoint.

A defeat for the American people, but it was good PR as Democrats thrilled to the self serving platitudes their leaders cascaded down on them.

The deepest recession since the Great Depression cost millions of jobs and trillions in bailout money. We needed financial reform badly, both to prevent it from happening again as well as setting the example that criminal activity will be treated as such. A solid financial package was cobbled together and pushed by the House. Once the bill gathered steam our president began to whittle away any systemic and regulatory change which did not meet with Wall St’s approval.

It is also pointed to with pride by many Democrats.

There’s really no point in going on any longer, either you get it or you don’t.

Look, we need responsible leadership. We need it badly. We didn’t get it with eight years of Bush, we aren’t getting it with two years of Obama. We don’t need Potemkin Villages, we don’t need blowup dolls, we don’t need Public Relation victories.

We need substantive and substantial answers to the problems facing our country. Trained seals clapping are great for Aquatics Shows, not so good when they comprise a good portion of the electorate.

The Ghetto Conceptualist isn’t sure what the word “Conceptualist” means but thought it sounded good.

Y’know, I’m actually quite pleased that you never bought the blow-up doll.

And I totally don’t understand why you don’t have a girlfriend…

Come on out to VA, me and Donna will find you someone nice 🙂

Oso, I really enjoy being educated by your perspectives on the economic situations. I am really struggling with the Democrats right now because, if I remember correctly, Obama came out asking for some fairly solid things in the healthcare bill. He was also trying to get something done on the economy. I believe that he fell short for two reasons. First, I think he actually thought that the Democrats in congress were going to join the fight for healthcare with him and go toe to toe with the Republicans. And he also thought that at least some Republicans care more about America than they did their party. Very quickly he found out he was wrong. Secondly, and I this was due to his inexperience, he did not realize how long it would take to get the stimulus money to actually start working into the economy. Actually a lot of it still isn’t there. So here we sit with a lame duck bunch of congress people who are now suddenly wanting to fight the good fight at a time when all the Republicans have to do is hold on for a month or so. At that point all hell is going to break loose and there is a good chance that everyone is going to be losers except for those who have enough cash stashed away to survive for a couple of years. If the “Dementist’s” get their way with the other Tea Baggers and they try to make the country run on a balanced budget the middle and lower income groups are screwed, the government will come to a grinding halt, and there may well be real class warfare. Of course, that could be a good thing in the short term because it may well shut some of these idiots up.

It’s so frustrating to hear that “balanced budget” crap, as you point out. The economy really will begin to shrink. Bad as it is, balanced budget will make it worse. We need govt spending to make up for lack of demand, and will need it until we pay down our private debt. Not gonna be easy coming out of this, no easy fixes.

Agreed completely on stimulus, it wasn’t near enough and it for the most part doesn’t take effect right away.

Oso,

I am not sure you proved your case that the healthcare bill was a defeat for the American people. Anything that comes closer to universal healthcare and that comes closer to ensuring that someone cannot be denied healthcare due to a pre-existing condition, is a step forward, at least in that respect. It certainly is not perfect.

Loopholes will always exist, and need to be plugged, so argue that. We need to plug the loopholes in the current healthcare bill. I can get on board with that. Argue that had it been an actual universal healthcare bill, it would have been converting healthcare to a socialist system. If you can make that case, I will agree wholeheartedly that it is shame that it was not actually universal healthcare, which Obama could never have sold.

Sincrely,

JMyste

Why not get the facts from the GAO and the Congressional Budget accounting?

with few minor changes, this was the Health care that was passed.
