Army was told not to send Manning to Iraq

Read Time:2 Minute, 8 Second

They were warned by his supervisor and yet, they did it anyway…and why you ask? Because they were short on personnel. From McClatchy:

Investigators have concluded that Army commanders ignored advice not to send to Iraq an Army private who’s now accused of downloading hundreds of thousands of sensitive reports and diplomatic cables that ended up on the WikiLeaks website in the largest single security breach in American history, McClatchy has learned.

Pfc. Bradley Manning’s direct supervisor warned that Manning had thrown chairs at colleagues and shouted at higher ranking soldiers in the year he was stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., and advised that Manning shouldn’t be sent to Iraq, where his job would entail accessing classified documents through the Defense Department’s computer system.

But superior officers decided to ignore the advice because the unit was short of intelligence analysts and needed Manning’s skills, two military officials familiar with the investigation told McClatchy.

The commanders hoped they could address Manning’s discipline problems in Iraq, the officials told McClatchy, but then never properly monitored him. The result was a “comedy of errors” as one commander after another assumed someone else was addressing Manning’s problems, one official said. Both officials spoke anonymously because they weren’t authorized to discuss the investigation.

Investigators are now considering whether they should recommend disciplinary action against at least three officers in Manning’s chain of command. Investigators must submit their findings to Army Secretary John McHugh by Tuesday.

I would highly suggest reading the entire article. It is eye opening to say the least. It sounds like heads are gonna roll. And I hope to hell they do.

They are always short on personnel in this all-volunteer army with two forever wars going on. That is why soldiers are doing six and seven tours for the love of christ.  That is why they are coming home mentally out to lunch in huge numbers never seen before. That is why the suicide rates are outrageous. That is why the numbers of troops with PTSD are absolutely out of control and sickeningly pathetic.

The DOD and the military has no one to blame but themselves and the warlords and warmongering scumbags that put us into Iraq and Afghanistan, namely Bush43, Cheney and now… Obama because he keeps our troops in Iraq and also in Afghanistan. May their God have mercy on their rotten souls because I can not when it comes to this issue of the forever wars for no apparent reason that are paid for with borrowed money and they are bankrupting our nation.

The problem is, when they all come home, then the medical problems and their costs will be insurmountable..as if they aren’t all ready. The staggering numbers of soldiers with PTSD that need forever care will cost the taxpayers billions..they already cost us millions for those home already and havent been screwed by the doctors that say they DON”T have PTSD when they do.

Those injured by roadside bombs well, you know the medical costs for caring for them, and the army can not deny that care, they just short change those guys as much as possible.

It’s all so damn immoral. And they call liberals immoral..Hah! Give me an effin break.

They hoped issues would disappear in combat regarding drug, alcohol and violence issues. Oh yeah, that is the ticket, send service members to a war of choice, it is, and hope it all goes away. But, but, some say, the troops are coming home now, and all will be good when they get here. Um, no no they are not when people are still there. Damn but I hate this endless strife, it wears you down and no amount of hand clapping for an admin that continues this is going to make it better I’m afraid. We need to get the hell out of policing the world at our cost, and we need to start it by getting EVERY single one of our servicemembers home and do it yesterday, from these desert adventures.

I wonder how many veterans we will have at the end of these wars (if they ever end). What will they do when they come home, with no jobs to take? Sending them there is bad enough, but not giving them the treatment and support they need upon return is reprehensible.

I couldn’t agree more…forever wars and forever enemies. Orwell did get a few things right, didn’t he?
