Democrats disappear from planet, replaced by Zombies.

Read Time:1 Minute, 8 Second

Buffalo used to roam the Great Plains, stretching across the horizon as far as the eye could see. The Democrats were like that once, stretching across the social horizon, championing peace and justice, human and civil rights, education and health care for all, as far as the liberal eye could see. Their presidential hopefuls would meet with farm workers, striking for basic rights and representation. No longer. They’re extinct.

There’s a changeling in its place, a foul creature that lurches across the political horizon now. It leaves a slimy trail as it passes, the stench of sulfur remains behind. And like the undead creatures of zombie fame, it’s followers lurch and twitch behind it, grunting ” Obama good, Pelosi good, Clinton good. Private health care good, speeches good, drone attacks good“.

They shamble and drool, shrieking “Progressive bad, public health care unrealistic, criticism of leader whining“.

On war
Democrat: Peace now! End war! No blood for oil!

Zombie: What war? It’s all the Republicans fault.

On Healthcare
Democrat: Affordable health care is a right, it shouldn’t be for profit!

Zombie: Don’t let the Republicans take away our mandate for privatized for-profit health insurance!

Wall St vs Main St
Democrat: Look for the union label!

Zombie: Corporate profits are up! The recovery continues, and the stock market is booming!

It’s entropy. We’ve become an ideologically closed system, so we’re winding down to mediocrity, where all are the same. You see it in the consumer world all the time. With a few exceptions, there is little appreciable difference now in how one side or the other takes the corporate influence. Most of the public “debate” (for want of a better word) is actually framed by, and in favor, ultimately of, corporate interests.

Remember the coke vs. pepsi war, where the then-ubiquitous RC Cola was shut out and is now just the equivalent of a store brand in a more expensive bottle that’s really hard to find? Walk into a convenience store now, and nearly every single bottle/can in the cooler is a pepsico or a coca-cola product. Good luck finding a Nehi Orange or Grape. And every single one is packed with high-fructose corn syrup. Same thing happens in societies, and we’re seeing that homogenization of politics into one big corporate-run spiel. It’s the political equivalent of coke vs. pepsi, and the outcome is ultimately the same – an utter lack of choice.

I have to agree with Oso. I am fed up with politicians, all of them. Sometimes I think there is no hope of our government ever changing to the point where the people are actually represented. It is all about gamesmanship. The guy who best plays the game wins the prize, but the prize doesn’t often reflect the wants or needs of the people. Good job O-man.

Oh, I wish I had written this, it’s exactly what I am feeling right now. I am about sick of glibtalk, speechifying and people thinking that clapping louder will make things right for the many.

not my best work, written out of extreme frustration with the Democratic Party’s current Republican platform, and the belief of many liberals that we have no choice but to accept it. Even worse, is their refusal to admit that this is the case.

This administration and this party you write about are one with the corporations. It is they that come first and they lie like repugs when they say the people come first.

Thanks Oso!

LOL.

Oso, you are a staunch atheist liberal, except for the excessive liberalism and the atheism.

If that does not make sense, don’t worry about it. You damn liberals get all confused at the drop of a hat and you atheists are heathens.

You’re right that doesn’t make sense. Oso is one of the few believers at MMA (the only?). I agree with his disgust and disenchantment. In less radical times Obama would have been considered a moderate Republican (like the ones who used to be around in the early 80’s.)
