I Come Here Not To Bury Lovie Smith And Rex Ryan; But To Praise Them

Read Time:1 Minute, 16 Second

Bears Quarterback Jay Cutler is taking plenty of heat from fellow NFL players for not playing the second half of Sunday’s NFC Championship game due to a knee injury. What’s forgotten is the way Bears coach Lovie Smith is handling this.

While I’ve never been enthralled with Lovie I admire the hell out of him for the way he has his player’s backs. And he has Jay Cutler’s back on this. Lovie told the world sitting Jay Cutler was a team decision. Not Cutler’s. Lovie stood up to take the heat for his player.  Just like he stood up for the mediocre Rex Grossman during Rex’s time as Bears QB. Who wouldn’t want to work for a boss like that.  Well done Coach Smith. Class act. And remember that the Bears still damn near won the game despite their starting QB being on the bench for half the game.

Jets coach Rex Ryan deserves some love also. Down 24 to 3 after the first half against the powerful Steelers and his team damn near won the game also. Many are questioning the play calling at the goal line that resulted in no score for the Jets. But c’mon folks. The Steelers have one of the best defenses in the NFL.  They can make an offense look bad.  And Rex is standing by his coaching staff which helped lead the Jets to the past two AFC title games. The man deserves some love. I just hope he doesn’t make another video of it.

It is easy after the games have ended to say what the coaches did wrong when they lose. The same decisions would have been deemed brilliant had they won. Great post Joe.

That was almost Shakespeare Joe, but instead of not burying Caesar you were not burying NFL coaches. Nice take on the happenings of the weekend.

I have never been a real fan of football but my favorite lady has a certain affection for the Green Bay Packers, so I watched the game, and then most of the one that followed. I really enjoyed them and agree with you completely Joe. These two coaches are to be admired for making unpopular decisions.
