Never Mind The Bullocks. Here Come The Seahawks!

Read Time:1 Minute, 23 Second

You would think being a good liberal soldier like most of us at MMA I’d be fine with elitism. I’m not. And that’s why I’m rooting for the Seattle Seahawks to beat the New Orleans Saints in round one of the NFC playoffs this weekend.

Seattle is getting bashed by elitist sportscasters like Mike Greenberg of ESPN for getting into the playoffs despite their 7 and 9 record.  I think it’s great and sets an example of the greatness of America. Even the losers get a chance at the spotlight now and then.

Years ago the playoff format was changed and two wildcard teams were added. This was for the money of course.  The NFL above all else is a cash machine.  But there was also talk about being fair to teams that had better records than division winners but didn’t qualify for the playoffs. But life is not always fair. This year the unfairness of life was balanced by the luck Seattle had to be in the same division as the awful NFC West.

Seattle took advantage of it’s situation by playing mediocre football against the St. Louis Rams in the last game of the season which decided who won the West.  The Seahawks proved their superior mediocrity over the Rams and absolutely deserve to move on and have a chance to get to The Super Bowl. It’s an example everyone of limited talent should use as motivation.

Of course the Seahawks have almost no chance against New Orleans, but hell. The hopelessly mediocre George W. Bush was elected then reelected President of The United States.  Limited talent and intelligence are not insurmountable.

Go Seahawks!

I remember coaching little league where we always had a playoff where, in theory, every team had a chance to win the championship The idea was that over the season the little kids could improve and give a good account for themselves. Rarely did a last place team win the championship but they were there to screw with the heads of the league leaders. One would think that as professional these folks would be about as good as they are going to be. But, on the flip side, the rules are the rules. They are the champs of their division and the rule say they should play. So let the games begin. The Saints probably already know, or should, they have to bring their “A” game everyday.

A 7 and 9 team doesn’t belong in the playoffs. Why bother with the regular season if your win-loss record doesn’t matter?

Just skip the season and go straight to the playoffs, since having a winning record is unimportant.

The NFL has dropped to the level of the NHL and NBA.

Luck of the draw Holte. Didn’t Arizona have a 9 and 7 record when it made it to the Super Bowl a couple years ago?

What’s in a record anyway. This weekend they’re all 0 and 0.

That being said, The Seahawks have as much chance as we authors do of getting MadMike to start paying us.

I’m still excited.

I do not care how bad they are or how they got in the play offs, they are in. Now is the time to play well.

New Orleans to repeat, Agree about the NFL being screwed up there some good teams not playing and one bad team that is. The Chiefs aren’t that good Holte, they will get smacked by the Ravens.

NFL teams all get the same TV money and have to endure the same salary cap, how one division can sport 4 losing teams is beyond me. If I was a team with a 10-6 record and a team with 7-9 records makes the playoffs, not only that but hosts a game with a team that has a superior record, I would be pissed. As a fan I want to see the best teams at this stage of the season.

And as a Chiefs fan, I don’t expect them to beat Baltimore, another example of the visiting team having a better record than the host. The NFL is dysfunctional.
