Stevie Ray Vaughan: Life By The Drop
One of the more powerful songs cut by Stevie Ray many believed this song was about his chronic battle with alcohol and cocaine. And it might be to him, but it was written by his friend Doyle Brahamhall who lived is life out of the lime light until after SRV’s death. Since then Doyle’s friends and fans seem to think it was written about his regrets for not joining SRV in the spotlight along with his brother Jimmy. As a big Stevie Ray Vaughn Fan this is the only recording I could find of him playing on an acoustic guitar. In any event, Life by the drop gives all of us something to think about,

Lazersedge, I saw SRV about a month before the copter accident took his life. I also took my young son…who was so taken w/SRV that he demanded a guitar and lessons.
Of course I bought him the cheapest Fender Strat I could find, that and the lessons damn near broke me..but I still remember that concert and my son’s reaction to hearing SRV live.
Doyle was a national treasure too, sadly not enough people knew of his talents.
Dusty it is good to hear from another fan of SRV. He was indeed special. I have a much treasured video of he, Clapton and B.B. on stage doing Sweet Home Chicago. Since it was an impromptu jam session it isn’t real smooth, but there is nothing those three men could do with guitars that was bad.
I hope your son is enjoying the Strat I still have my first one (well actually my son has it right now) 🙂
Doyle is a treasure. I am glad to see him stepping out. I wish he had much sooner.
Great stuff Bill, love SRV.
You and I both Holte. Back in my “Bluesman” days I did a few of his songs but always left this one alone. It is unique and special.
Music always gives us something to think about. Never heard of SRV but enjoyed this. I’ll Youtube him.
Anything that makes us think is a plus. So few things do lately.
Ta for this.
