Georgia’s Broun sympathizes with “who’s gonna shoot Obama” questioner

Read Time:2 Minute, 1 Second

I have the misfortune to live in the “Heart of Darkness” my less than fond appellation for Georgia.  The machinations and representations of Georgia’s elected officials defy all good sense and logic.  Remember the “will the island sink if more people are put on it” guy?  Did you know there is a group, yes a group of Georgia representatives, who actually believe that the earth is flat?  The same group says the whole idea of the earth revolving around the sun is a Jewish plot.  This is Georgia.  Ignorance reigns supreme, and here is yet another example of that ignorance in this Raw Story:

At a recent town hall meeting with constituents, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) fielded a frightening question: “Who’s going to shoot Obama?”

That’s not an exact quote from the unnamed questioner, but it is how local reporter Blake Aued scrawled it down.

Aued was also able to confirm the wording of the question with Broun’s press secretary, his report in the Athens Banner-Herald noted.

That question apparently got a “big laugh” out of the crowd assembled for Broun’s Tuesday meeting. But instead of coming out very strongly against such a shocking query, Aued wrote that Broun tried to sympathize with the individual.

“The thing is, I know there’s a lot of frustration with this president,” Broun reportedly said. “We’re going to have an election next year. Hopefully, we’ll elect somebody that’s going to be a conservative, limited-government president that will take a smaller, who will sign a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare.”

Read the full report in the Athens Banner-Herald.

Broun isn’t known for being the sharpest member of Congress. Last year he followed Fox News conspiracy host Glenn Beck in boasting that he’d returned his family’s US census form without answering all the questions.

Problem for the ostensibly fiscal conservative Broun: not answering the 10 questions on census forms triggers a visit from a census-taker, who costs the taxpayers about $60 per house according to a census bureau spokesman who talked to reporter Greg Sargent.

Broun was an ardent defender of the “death panel” myth invented by Republicans amid a disinformation campaign against the president’s health reform proposals. He’s also long called Obama a “socialist,” even in spite of the president’s mostly friendly stance toward big business.

He’s since been mocked as one of the dumbest elected representatives in Washington.

Damn, I feel for you guys really I do. This all happening on the same weekend I am going to a grand opening of what is basically a Weed Walmart and workers rally in Sacramento tomorrow and the Athiestevolutionapalooza on Sunday in San Francisco CA. You all want to move here now don’t you, admit it, you’re among friends here.

My district is, thankfully, held by a dem and the districts closest to me yep dems. Now I am surrounded by village idiots but still, nothing like this kind of stuff on even a semi regular basis.

Jess I do envy you. You live in a place that apparently provides great opportunity for civil disobedience. Here if a cow gets stuck on the tracks it’s a big deal.

Be thankful you are not a woman living in South Dakota, or anywhere really in these currently divided states, that has decided to abort her pregnancy or a member of the LGBT community that can’t marry who you want without others voting on it. I know that isn’t any consolation prize, yet still it could be worse. You could be living in the great state of TN and be a Muslim, where that whole “small govenrment” ruse by the republicans could invade your living room to see if you practice any kind of Sharia law in privacy and possibly jail you for it.

It seems as of some of these states are trying to batshit insane the other ones on a race to the bottom. I swear these idiots have managed to reach lower levels of insanity every single time.
