Trinity

Read Time:1 Minute, 35 Second

No, I’m not talking about the first nuclear weapon detonation in 1945, or even Carrie-Anne Frost in the Matrix. I’m talking about the idea that God is made up of three seperate pieces, each separate but at the same time each one is God himself.

I get confused.

Which one is God?, All or none, or one or two.

I get confused

I spoke to a good friend who is a devout (but not dogmatic) catholic, and he said he didn’t waste time thinking about the Trinity (Father, Son & Holy Ghost), as

  1. He didnt believe in it.
  2. Some things were not meant to be understood by man.

I told him that I wasn’t aware that practicing Christians could choose which part of their Theology they believe in. I thought it was a take-it or leave-it, all or nothing sort of arrangement.

He just smiled, but didn’t answer.

I get confused.

It’s no wonder that atheism is growing rapidly.

I have not tried to summarise the current ideas of The Trinity which are all available on the web, because as far as I can see it’s all complete crap. It’s all ideas built on possibilities, built on philosophical conjecture, with zero evidence.

I did come across one guy who quoted John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Now I know that the Bible was created by many people, with multiple translations from many languages, and the language, although stately and with a glorious rolling presence, does not always transfer exact meanings.
But it seems to me that the quote from John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word”
So the Word came before God.
Does this mean that Bill Gates is the Ultimate creator?

Attending Catholic Church once with a friend, I first heard the mention of The Trinity and really was confused. The Father,Son, and the Holy Ghost???

Okay the Father is God, the son is Jesus….but who is the Holy Ghost. The friend couldn’t explain it and anybody I asked after that really couldn’t either.

I like John M.’s explanation above. All three are just God. Perhaps it takes several items to talk about one thing in a way that we can understand. Like 3 dimensions are needed to describe a point is space.. X,Y,Z.

I can understand man’s incessant need to quantify things in order to gain understanding of them. But if there were a supreme consciousness, this number should be more along the lines of an infinity symbol, rather than a trinity.

Humanity attempts to enclose this idea, thus limiting it.

Robert,

It’s very simple. It is atheists who try to make it sound stupid. God, the Son and the Holy Spirit are all personifications of a single Godhead. When we think of God, we sometimes need to think of aspects of God in how we relate to Him, but they are One and the Same, and at the same time Three expressions of God. Since all this is holy is an expression of God, it is not that confusing. All in you that is good is also an expression of God.

As all sensible folk know, there is only one God. These are three of Them.

See, it makes perfect sense, so stop trying to frame it in such a way as to make it sound silly.

Robert,
I’ve got a good friend who regularly watches Fox News. His politics are liberal,he claims they have the best looking anchorwomen.

I asked him how can he listen to that crap in spite of the anchorwomen and he tells me he doesn’t pay any attention to what they say, just likes the women.

Like a man at a party passing by the party mix, he takes what he needs then moves on.

I believe in God, I don’t believe Jesus was His son and neither did anyone else till the Romans held a council and decided to amend things.

I believe the Angel Gabriel (the Holy Spirit)exists to intercede with man.

As far as picking and choosing – who am I to think I’m better than the dudes who made up the Council of Nicaea 🙂

Some believers march in lockstep, maybe I’m the type who just passes by the party mix and moves on or watches bad TV for good anchorwomen.
