Hard Left Obama haters demand US invade Libya

Read Time:3 Minute, 29 Second

It’s not so far fetched.  Keep in mind that America is the United Nations.  We supply the manpower and we put the boots on the ground in overwhelming numbers.  This is not to take away from our brave and dedicated allies, whose boots are also on the ground and right along side of us, albeit in much smaller numbers.

At present the United States is involved heavily in Afghanistan, and has a strong presence in Iraq, both unstable regions.  For years the progressives have been weeping and wailing, demanding that we withdraw our troops and leave these people to their own devices.  Now, however a few want America to put boots on the ground in the Middle East once again.  What happened to “what happens over there stays over there?”  What happened to the progressive screech of “no American blood on foreign soil?”

I just don’t get it.  What do you guys want?  I surf the web, peruse the social sharing sites, and read the criticisms of the president because he is not heavily involved in the affairs of other countries.  In the same breath they demand that we leave Afghanistan because we are meddling in the affairs of other countries.  Say what?

Why don’t you tell progressives us what you want?  Here is the story, from Voice of America, of what is happening now:

The U.S. military is moving air and naval forces in the region around Libya to be ready to carry out any orders it is given related to the crisis there. But officials say no decision has been made on whether or how to use U.S. military power.

The U.S. military normally maintains a strong presence in the Mediterranean, and has bases in Spain, Italy and Turkey. It has more forces south of the Suez Canal, mainly focused on East African piracy and support for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

But naval and air forces in particular are flexible, and can be in one place one day, and another place fairly far away the next day.

Pentagon spokesman Colonel David Lapan says although the U.S. military has not been ordered to do anything regarding Libya, it is making plans and has started to move forces, just in case it is ordered.

“We have planners working various contingency plans, and I think it’s safe to say as part of this we are repositioning forces to provide for that flexibility, once decisions are made,” he said.

Lapan says the military is working to ensure that when President Barack Obama says he has asked officials to prepare “a full range of options,” as he did last week, that there are in fact options researched and ready to be presented to the president, and implemented if necessary.

Military officials are reluctant to say exactly what options they are preparing. But experts outside government say the possibilities include imposing a no-fly zone, delivering humanitarian supplies or weapons to revolt leaders, evacuating foreigners, and potentially sending in troops to establish or maintain order. No one is seriously talking about that at this stage.

Colonel Lapan would only say the forces “could be used in any number of ways,” and that moving them now provides additional flexibility to the president. “We have lots of planners looking at options and contingencies to provide the senior leadership with options, but no decisions have been made yet. So, we’re still in that planning and preparing mode should we be called upon to do any of those types of missions, whether humanitarian or otherwise,” he said.

Lapan says the planning is focused mainly on naval and air forces, and that so far no orders have been received to launch any type of military mission in or around Libya.

This is what is happening now.  It will change tomorrow if not hour by hour.  So remember when American blood is being shed on the streets of Tripoli, this is what you wanted, unless you don’t expect war to have consequences.  So, when it is all said and done, and we can’t just “leave” I don’t want to hear you whining about how we shouldn’t be there.

“Facebook” is part of the U.S. capitalist dictatorship’s media and is playing a crucial role in the Final Stage of Capitalism: Permanent War and State Terrorism. Here is how they work it: The U.S. capitalist dictatorship uses FACEBOOK to organize the opposition in these countries which supports the U.S. in its wars and invasions, the destruction of the planet Earth, etc., while making all sorts of false promises to these “protesters.” In the countries which they actually intend to invade and carry out a CoupD’etat, rather than just carry out a REGIME CHANGE, they also organize and arm a tiny “Rebel” army of PRO-U.S. FANATICS, a group WHICH DOES NOT IN ANY WAY REPRESENT THE ACTUAL MAJORITY OPINION OF THE COUNTRY TARGETED FOR INVASION. Then the U.S.-led media and FACEBOOK and TWITTER, etc. falsely announce: “Large (small!) anti-government protests have escalated into a civil war!” Then after bribing the Russian Federation and the Peoples’ Republic of China and whomever else is necessary, they announce a “No-Fly Zone” to begin the invasion and CoupD’etat. Examples are Libya and now Syria, which the capitalists intend to invade momentarily! This is why TIME magazine made the kid-CEO of “FACEBOOK” the “Man of the Year.” (!) Yahoo and numerous other websites all controlled by the United States government have blocked this writer from making and comments whatsoever! Phony U.S. Internet “freedom!” So-called “Facebook” will no longer post any of the writings of this author and has ENTIRELY DELETED The Materialist Analysis of Theoretical Astrophysics from his profile or “wall” or whatever they call it because the word has caught on with young physics students that they are being fed a load of crap having NOTHING to with science for political/religious reasons of manipulation and that there is in fact no “dark energy,” no “dark matter,” no “parallel universes,” no “worm holes” and NO “god.” “Facebook” is partners in mass murder and disinformation and Big Lie Orwellian 1984 “Newspeak” with Obama/NATO. “Facebook” is TOTAL SCUM so do not be deceived by all the ballyhoo accorded this NEW WEAPON OF CAPITALISM-IMPERIALISM. “Facebook” is a Fascist U.S. WEAPON! “Facebook” deliberately assists the U.S. capitalist dictatorship, which is deliberately sabotaging the U.S. economy in order to be in accordance with Globalism, which is defined as worldwide competition among the capitalist exploiters for the lowest salaried workers. The U.S. capitalist dictatorship is waging war NOT just against multiple countries around the world one after the other, but ALSO is waging a genuine war of extermination and population reduction against its own population, its own people, through a campaign of DELIBERATE ECONOMIC SABOTAGE of the U.S. and world economy, biological war and psychological warfare and has now lost all legitimacy to rule and all right to sovereignty here in the United States! OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD! Capitalism Offers a World with No Future! We need a Socialist Revolution here in the United States!

I agree with Harry. If we haven’t invaded a country yet give us 15 minutes and we will.

* waving at the crowd * So I surmise the majority here does not approve of “lefties”?

opps! with the exception of Jess. 🙂

The majority here ARE lefties. 🙂 That’s probably why some are getting defensive. I think the distinction here is between simple run-of-the-mill “lefties,” and “hard lefties” who are calling for us to do more in Libya. It’s not all, or even most leftists, but a subgroup nonetheless. It’s kind of like the distinction on this site between those who are simply religious, and those who are deemed “Krazy Kristians” (i.e. religious extremists).

I wouldn’t say anyone’s getting “defensive”. It’s more like we’d like to see due diligence rather than unfounded accusations.

Not double-tongued, methinks. Just a short way of saying a person should do his research before making assertions like “hard left Obama haters demand US invade Libya.” The assertion lacked evidence.

Mr. Stimpson: You write here but you attack the editor of the place? You wouldn’t write for me for five seconds by showing that sort of disloyalty. Hell man. It’s an editorial, supported by a news story, seems to me like. Michael Scott is giving an opinion and he can say what he wants and you can interpret it any way you want without throwing stones.

Agree with Krell, for you “war’s ok long as it’s Democrats” folks – a little due diligence, please? Where is this exactly?

Those of you commenters buying in – please show some links?

Mike, where are the links and information that you have read about these crazed “lefty Progressives” that are advocating invasion of Libya?

I googled “Hard Left Obama Haters” and the first two links were your site and then after that the sites were all conservative and “Hard Right Obama Haters”.

Not saying that there aren’t progressives that strongly disagree with Obama, but can’t find any of those Libyan Progressive Hawks.

Stimpson

In fact, I just did a Google Blog search ‘invade Libya’ and found nothing in the first five pages to support your assertion that ‘hard left’ Americans are ‘demanding’ any such thing. I suppose there are some – just as you could find some advocates of any given policy – but this just isn’t the phenomenon you insist it is.

Reply to  Stimpson

I suspect part of this–search terms are everything, and few lefties–even the “hardest” of them–are likely to call it an invasion. At least some of the more extreme leftists, though, are surely hoping for U.S. action by calling for us to “send troop support for the people of Libya.”

If our military weren’t so over-stretched and our “homeland” so generally f*cked up, I could almost get behind that. I think so long as we’ve got Scott Walker in any public office, though, we’d be hard-pressed to argue that we know what’s best for ourselves, much less any other nation.

Power to the people…

Use whatever search terms you want and get back to me with a list of leftists calling for the invasion of Libya, ‘kay?

This doesn’t say whether calls are from the left or the right, but outlines the pressure Obama is facing: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8350702/Libya-Barack-Obama-under-pressure-to-support-Libyas-rebel-government.html

And another–I can only believe these are leftists, as righties rarely seem to leave their corporate offices long enough to take to the streets: http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=7971707

Here’s something from the Nation, discussing liberal (and neoconservative, in all fairness) support for a “no-fly zone,” which, in the words of the article, “means war”: http://www.thenation.com/blog/158818/against-no-fly-zone-libya?comment_sort=ASC

In short, then, you’re saying there isn’t a wave of lefties calling for the U.S. to invade Libya.

Reply to  Stimpson

Never mind “hard left Obama haters demand(ing) US invade Libya.”

Reply to  Stimpson

A wave, no. A “few,” which is what was referenced in the article? Sure thing.

Not trying to be difficult on this. I don’t think there’s a wave of liberals calling for any type of an “invasion.” I do think some liberals will believe we should be doing more in Libya. I can’t say I disagree, except for the little issue of our nation having limited and already-overstretched resources. This leaves me thinking we’re wise to move slowly and thoughtfully in any support provided.

Reply to  Greenlight

Yes, thoughtfully and cautiously is the way to go.

But again, I don’t see the “hard left Obama haters” your beau talks about. Left, maybe some of them. Obama haters – no evidence.

oh! sorry for taking so long to respond; “wrong” = not factual, not proven, false, = wrong. / if presented as factual.

Stimpson, point well taken, though you know the saying–beauty and Obama-hating are in the eye of the beholder. Or something like that.

I don’t agree with everything Mr. Mad says (how boring that would be!), but I have sat around the table with enough liberals complaining about Obama not changing the world in a day to know the type he’s talking about here. This is *not* a diatribe against all liberals, goodness knows I’m about as liberal as they come.

Great interactions here, thanks for engaging.

I can’t see where the writer called or suggested that this was a “phenomenon” and I have read this story several times. As a matter of fact my boss other than being an ass is a hater of Obama and also criticizes him for not sending troops and he is a democrat.

Get a dictionary and look up the word phenomenon. I don’t know what you think it means, but it doesn’t have to be in the original post for me to use it.

Wait, I’ll do the work for you. Phenomenon is “an observable event” or “an occurrence, circumstance, or fact that is perceptible by the senses.” A simple Google search found those definitions.

Funny thing, I’ve read a lot about the situation in Libya in the last week and come across not one U.S. ‘lefty’ advocating invasion. Can you say “straw man argument”?

Good question and I like “hard” left better than “far” left, which is what I’ve been using. One might safely say they’re like concrete – all mixed up and permanently set.

Ditto to all the previous comments.

I agree with Jess and lazer, we need to clean up our own house before we criticize anyone else. We can be suportive from a distance. I have no doubt we’ll send money, we always do, although where we’ll get it who knows. But to have more kids bleeding and dying, no way. This time we need to sit on our hands on the sidelines and just watch.

Or can it be that our military people are so anxious to show a need for all those toys their big budget buys?

lazersedge

I agree with Jess. Let’s take a lesson from our playbooks from the past. Since the end of of WWII we started dabbling in the affairs of other countries, especially those in the Middle East and the Far East and that hasn’t too well. We are still technically at war with North Korea, and the country we saved, South Korea has become a vicious trading competitor against us. Next came Viet Nam where Ho Chi Minh handed us our hat after killing 50,000 of our troops and sent us home in disgrace and they are now one of our best trading partners. We helped the Afghans by turning over massive arms to Osoma Bin Laden to defeat the Russians and now we are being threatened every day by them. We set up the Shah of Iran on to have the Ayatollah have our embassy captured and the staff held hostage for 144 days till Reagan bartered them out with missiles. We invaded a sovereign country named Iraq for based on false intelligence to bring them our form of democracy and they are still fighting over what it means. Uh yeah, we really don’t have a good track record for these things. Additionally, we don’t have nearly everything under control here so I am not sure we can show anyone else how to do it right.

Jess

Well this is one lefty that thinks we need to close down the entire military shop worldwide so I have nothing on this. If those countries want democracy they need to get it on their own. Anytime we go in to help them fight for democracy, it is some bastardized version of it and people in our own country go hungry, go without medical care, lose education funding and so on.

We need to worry about our own backyard and the people struggling here before we start trying to clean up the rest of the world this time. Seems to me we don’t have the money but that hasn’t stopped them before sadly.
