Mormons boot star basketball player for having pre-marital sex

Read Time:1 Minute, 0 Second

Yet another incredible story to come out of the world of Jesus and the gang.  This time it originates in Utah, home of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) aka Mormons.  You see, if you are a Mormon you aren’t expected to enjoy life as others do.  You aren’t allowed to dance, drink, smoke, wear normal underwear, or have sex outside of marriage.  Now I will agree that drinking and smoking could have potentially serious consequences, but boxer shorts and sex?  At what point does the ridiculous become the sublimely ridiculous?  Here is the edited story:

The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that Brandon Davies was kicked off the No. 3 basketball team in the nation, because he admitted to having pre-marital sex with his girlfriend, in violation of Brigham Young University’s honor code.Davies will remain in school while the Honor Code Office reviews his case, but will not play again this season.

Without Davies on Wednesday night, the 27-2 Cougars are struggling against unranked New Mexico State. At the time of this post, they trail by double-digits in the second half.

My question has to be:  How did the school find out about this?

I looked up “floating” because a friend of mine mentioned it and I had never heard of it before. Did I mention I am a Mormon, although I am inactive. I was raised in the LDS church and I have NEVER heard of this practice.

For all you Mormon-haters out there who just spew stuff that you hear from other Mormon-haters who don’t really know anything about what they are talking about, there is no such practice as “floating” in the Mormon faith. It may be something that deviant Mormon teenagers came up with but it is not a ‘Mormon” practice.

Also, we do not have more than one wife. That is the FLDS church. We use to until it became against the law so the LDS church banned the practice.

Dancing is not prohibited either, you IDIOT, whoever said that. Thry talking to a real Mormon for your information. Not an ex-member who has an ax to grind.

Every institution has rules. You can’t pick and choose which rules to follow. He chose to go to a well-known Mormon school. I’m sure he was advised of the rules and the honor code of BYU before he signed. If he broke the rules than he gets what he gets. His fault totally. I’m glad. I’m tired of these jocks getting away with the crap they do just because all the school cares about is winning games but if you are not a star jock then you get the book thrown at you. Double standards suck!!

Obviously sex can have dire consequences if done with disease transmitting partners(unsafely) or an unwanted pregnancy in some cases. And perhaps psychological issues with some.

The kid had to have known the ‘rules’ for this mormon institution of cough…higher learning. Should of picked a normal college instead of one run by religious zealots.

Of course it’s stupid, archaic and typical religious bullshit..but it’s not news how the mormons feel about premartial sex..but it’s ok w/some of them to have multiple wives..go figure.

Mr Formby – with or without a Ukulele….

‘As weird as this sounds you have to give the school credit for putting its principles before its athletic program’

…you are clearly unhinged.

…and before I get in trouble again…you are quite entitled to be unhinged under whatever equality law applies…

As weird as this sounds you have to give the school credit for putting its principles before its athletic program. That is something that most universities would not do. I consider it a stupid rule, but I am sure he knew it. The person he mentioned it to was probably his back up.

I have to say I give the school credit for nothing of the sort. Should we have given credit to Ole Miss for denying James Meredith entry because he was black? They were sticking to their principles.

This is a foolish rule made by foolish men bent on controlling what others do and think. And there is no greater affront to humanity than to deny a person the right to be who they are – so long as who they are injures no one else.

Mr. Kelley while you and I do not agree with this principle, and I certainly do not agree segregation at Ole Miss or anywhere else. The window of my office at the University of Alabama looked right at the infamous door where George Wallace stood to block Vivian Malone from entering college there. But after the scandals we have been faced with in college athletics lately if a school has a rule it is good to see it enforced. Yes, it is a stupid rule, to you and to me.
When I went into the Marines they cut off all my hair which thought was stupid. “Bear” Bryant took his first Texas A&M team to Junction City, Texas and any who didn’t survive could not play for him. He also did not allow long hair. When I write here on MMA column I must use something close to proper English.
As long as one knows the rules one must follow one may choose to join a particular organization or not. If they choose to join that organization as opposed to another one then they are agreeing to to follow that organization’s rules. I am assuming that this young man knew the rules.

Mormons suck.

Perhaps that needs rephrasing?

Oh I have so very much I could say here, so very much, starting with it;s Footloose with no sign of Kevin bacon. I will just say one thing, instead of doing his floating up to the net he should have practiced the art of non sex floating with his girlfriend.

This is indeed a term the Mormons use to get around, you know, the actual sex acts we all love, well most of us. If you go and google “Mormon floating”, please put aside any drinks or food you may have so you don’t spit it out laughing and mess up yer stuff. You’ll thank me for this, you will.
